Three governorships were at stake, two held by Republicans and one by a Democrat. Republican Phil Bryant won a second term in Mississippi. Republicans achieved a pick up in Kentucky, where Matt Bevin succeeded term-limited Gov. Steve Beshear. Democrats achieved a pick up in Louisiana, where Jon Bel Edwards succeeded term-limited Gov. Bobby Jindal.
