 2024 SENATE RACE OVERVIEW
 
As expected, Republicans regained control of the Senate.  With backing of four Independents Democrats had held a narrow majority, but they were defending 19 seats to just 11 for Republicans. Republicans defeated incumbents in Montana (Tester), Ohio (Brown), and Pennsylvania (Casey), and also picked up West Virginia (Manchin).  Twelve new senators were elected, the most since 2014.

Before Nov. 5, 2024:  47 held by Democrats, 4 by Independents, 49 by Republicans.
