2024 Presidential Primary Candidates

Although conventional wisdom as of August 2023 projects a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald J. Trump in Nov. 2024, no votes have been cast and much can happen in the coming months.  On the Democratic side, President Biden has drawn two longshot challengers.  On the Republican side, former President Trump appears far, far ahead of the rest of the field, but faces multiple indictments which will complicate his campaign.  Competing with Trump for the Republican nomination are nine current or former statewide elected officials, as well as a number of outsiders.  Candidates are also competing for third party nominations, led by the Libertarian and Green parties; professor and progressive activist Cornel West is running as a third party candidate but most of the other candidates are virtual unknowns.  All told, several hundred candidates have filed with the FEC to run for president, most of whom are candidates-in-name-only, having raised no money and done no campaigning.  Also looking to Fall 2024, the group No Labels has been laying the groundwork toward running a third-party unity ticket.
