In these tough times, Massachusetts faces an important choice in the Governor's race.

Go ahead...
compare for yourself.

First, let's look at what the three candidates have done.

Governor Deval Patrick
and Lt. Governor Tim Murray are leading Massachusetts out of this recession faster and stronger than other states by:

• Creating the jobs of today and tomorrow right here in our Commonwealth;

• Protecting education to keep our students first in the nation in both math and reading;

• Extending health coverage to 97% of our  residents; capping excessive  insurance premmms;

• Investing in clean energy and life sciences; and

• Protecting and expanding services for our veterans.

Let's see what independent sources say

...about Deval Patrick and Tim Murray

"Massachusetts employers added jobs for the sixth consecutive month in July as the state economy continued a broad recovery that is outpacing the nation as whole."
Boston Globe, August 20, 2010

"Mass. is emerging from recession faster than US."
Boston Globe, July 15, 2010

"Effective management during economic downturns, with a willingness and ability to promptly identify and close gaps through use of both new revenues and spending reductions."
Moody's, March 4, 2010

...about Charles Baker

"You failed to tell the truth when you told me that you were 'one of about 50 people' making financing decisions on the Big Dig. You were one of the most important people."
Brian McGrory, The Boston Globe, May 14, 2010

"Baker was integrally involved in passing on the $22 billion cost of the Big Dig to taxpayers in Southeastern and Western Massachusetts. As a result, they couldn't get a road or bridge repaired for two decades."
Jack Spillane, New Bedford Standard Times, July 15, 2010

"Harvard Pilgrim Health Care tripled [Baker's] CEO salary as premiums skyrocketed." Boston Herald, March 15, 2010

...about Tim Cahill

"State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, an independent candidate for governor making a play for fiscally conservative voters, said yesterday that the state's universal health care law is bankrupting Massachusetts and will do the same nationally if Congress passes a similar plan."
The Boston Globe, May 17, 2010

"But most of his drop [in the poll] can be attributed to Cahill himself - and his too often principle-free approach to the campaign." Adrian Walker, The Boston Globe, May 29, 2010

Charles Baker
former Health Insurance CEO, has a different vision:

• He was the architect of the Big Dig financing scheme, one of the biggest financial messes in the history of our Commonwealth.

• His agenda would risk funding for our schools, health care, and local aid to hold down property taxes.

• He has offered more Big Dig economics and budget gimmicks that would threaten job creation, pile up big debt, and weaken our bond rating.

Tim Cahill
State Treasurer,
has moved farther and farther to the political right:

• He advocated slashing support for education.

• He advocated repealing the state's health care law and cutting local aid.

• Opposed the wind farm off the coast of Cape Cod that would create hundreds of jobs and help make Massachusetts a green energy leader.

• He stood with Sarah Palin and the Tea Party on the Boston Common.

Now, let's see where they stand on the issues.

We need to make the right choice for the future of Massachusetts.

We need to re-elect Deval Patrick

Q. What has Deval Patrick been doing?
A. Delivering on the promise of universal healthcare
for the people of Massachusetts!

"Even in tough times, we cannot afford to abandon our commitment to affordable, accessible, high-quality health care for every man, woman, and child in the Commonwealth."
Governor Deval Patrick

Because of the successful implementation of health care reform, 97% of Massachusetts residents now have health care. No other state comes close. Health care reform means that you or your neighbors don't have to worry about going into bankruptcy if you get sick. You or your family don't have to worry about having your insurance company turn you away because you were sick before you were insured.

Change is Happening. We have had two of the most productive legislative terms in Massachusetts history. Here are a number of health and social services initiatives of which we are most proud:

Giving more choices to people who can't live independently: In partnership with communities state wide, the Patrick-Murray administration developed a policy to increase choices for individuals who cannot live independendy. Key pares of the plan include closing or downsizing institutions and developing new flexible community supports.

Managing the HINI influenza pandemic:
Massachusetts is considered a national leader in managing the HlNl pandemic. The Patrick-Murray administration earned praise for how it communicated with stakeholders and how quickly HlNl vaccine was distributed.

Expanding benefits and services to veterans: Massachusetts is a national leader in providing benefits and services to returning veterans. However, in 2009, the Patrick-Murray administration expanded services even further. They provided additional "welcome home" bonuses, enabled electronic voting in Massachusetts elections for servicemen and women overseas, and included expanded public works hiring preferences to include servicedisabled veterans.

Providing mental health care for the Commonwealth's veterans:
The Department of Veterans' Services and the Department of Public Health collaborated to launch the SAVE program, which focuses on suicide prevention and treatment for mental illness among the Commonwealth's veterans. So far, the program has reached our to 7,000 veterans and their family members and has collaborated with a number of government, private, and non-profit veterans groups to help veterans gee the help they need.

Created a green jobs training program for returning veterans:
The Department of Veterans Services has partnered with the Veterans' Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill to assist eligible veterans along the I-495 corridor learn new skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

Making Massachusetts a national leader in smoking cessation:
The MassHealth/Department of Public Health program provides smoking cessation benefits and counseling to individual members and has become one of the most successful smoking cessation programs in the country. In just one year, the program dramatically reduced hospitalizations for heart attacks, etc.

Expanded job opportunities for people with disabilities:
The Patrick-Murray administration has launched "Work Without Limits," a public-private partnership to improve job opportunities for people with disabilities across Massachusetts.

Improving public health statewide through the Mass in Motion program:
Massachusetts is fighting obesity among adults and kids by helping people ear better and become more physically active in their homes, workplace and schools. Cities and towns are raking advantage of nearly $750,000 in grants to create safe spaces to exercise or grow fresh vegetables and establish farmers' markers. Public health regulations also help bring more nutritious foods to communities and help parents understand how to fight obesity in their kids.
