TOM HOLLAND
understands the challenges facing Main Street, because he works there too.

Running a successful small business for 16 years, Tom Holland understands the tough choices that businesses make every day. He's fought for job-creating policies in the Legislature, and as Governor, he'll work with Republicans, Independents and Democrats to bring common sense and fiscal discipline to Topeka.

TOM'S PRIORITIES:

KansasJobs:
Tom will put his small business experience to work to create jobs, both in bedrock Kansas industries like aviation, and emerging ones like renewable energy.

Fiscal Discipline: Tom has fought to cut wasteful spending and taxes. He sponsored a bill to let Kansans track how their tax dollars are spent on the Internet.

Energy Independence: Tom is committed to making Kansas a leader in clean energy by harnessing our natural resources and ending our dependence
on foreign oil.

SAM BROWNBACK
fits right in on Capitol Hill
but he's the wrong choice for Kansas

Fifteen years in Washington have changed Sam Brownback. Instead of standing up for ordinary Kansans, he's caving in to lobbyists and special interests, adding trillions to the national debt with wastefull spending. Now he's coming back to Kansas and promising to bring Washington politics with him.

The Brownback Record:
Brownback supported a bailout for failed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac after the housing market nearly collapsed, and even voted to protect tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

Brownback, after years of taking money from Wall Street, wants to privatize Social Security and put millions of retirees' savings at risk in the stock market.

Brownback turned his back on American soldiers by attempting to block a bill that included pay raises for troops and voted against upgrading armor for vehicles driven by soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I'm running for governor because, now more than ever, Kansas needs a problem solver in the governor's office. Together we can keep Washington out of Kansas and protect those things that make our state great.

– Senator Tom Holland

Tom Holland understands business and how to do more with less. As the president of Holland Technologies, a Baldwin-based information technology consulting firm, Tom has spent the last 16 years solving the daily problems of running a small business, while carving out a path for long-term growth.

A native Midwesterner, Tom grew up in Indianapolis. In 1993, he and his wife Barbara moved their family to Baldwin because they saw Kansas as a land of opportunity – a place to start their business and put their children in the best public schools.

In 2002, Tom watched his children's classrooms become over-crowded, and our state sue the legislature to fully fund the public school system. A problem solver by nature, he ran for the Kansas House in 2002 to protect our schools.

Tom served the families of Kansas' 10th House District from 2003 until 2009, when he became a state senator representing the 3rd District in rural Douglas, Leavenworth and Jefferson Counties. He presently serves as the ranking minority member on the Senate Assessment and Taxation, Business & Labor and Commerce committees and also serves on the Financial Institutions and Insurance committee.

As a legislator, Tom received recognition in 2003 from the Kansas Disability Caucus for leadership in addressing the need to fund programs for people with disabilities. He serves as advisory council co-chair of the Kansas Small Business Development Center and serves on the board of directors for both Kansas, Inc. and KTEC.

An active community leader and parent.Tom coaches youth baseball teams in Lawrence and also served as a Cub Scouts den leader. He is an active member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence, KS, where he plays upright bass with the Plymouth Strings group. Tom and his wife of 29 years, Barbara, have four children: Thomas (28, University of Kansas graduate), Derek (23, Baker University graduate), Brandon (21, University of Kansas Junior), and Louisa (14, South Junior High eighth grader).

Kelly Kultala knows the challenges facing Kansas families. As a proud working mom, grandma, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and great-aunt, Kelly's perspective is like that of many Kansans.

A fifth-generation Kansan, Kelly went back to school when her youngest daughter was just six months old and later earned her college degree from the University of Kansas. As a working mom, Kelly helped pay the bills and provide health care for her family as her husband battled Type 1 diabetes and beat cancer.

Kelly's time in public service has been defined by working in a bipartisan fashion to improve her community. Kelly has served on the Piper School Board, as a commissioner on the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas and as a State Senator, where she proudly serves alongside Tom Holland.

Committed to creating jobs to help grow the Kansas economy, Kelly was instrumental in working with the Governor's office to bring a new office park and soccer stadium to Kansas. This project is expected to create more than 4,000 jobs. Kelly was also part of the bipartisan coalition which passed a new Comprehensive Transportation Plan for Kansas. Along with improving highway safety and promoting interstate commerce, this project is expected to create tens of thousands of new jobs over the next decade.

Currently, Kelly is Director of Community Outreach for Youthville, one of Kansas' largest child advocacy organizations.

Married to husband, Dan, for more than three decades, the Kultalas have three grown daughters, two sons-in-law and two grandchildren.
