DEMOCRATIC PICK UP Notes: Tom Wolf (D), an executive at The Wolf Organization who served as secretary of revenue for two years during the Rendell administration, defeated Gov. Tom Corbett (R). Corbett was unopposed in the May 20 primary. Wolf topped a field of four candidates, obtaining 488,917 votes (57.86%) followed by U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz 149,027 (17.64%), Treasurer Rob McCord 142,311 (16.84%) and former Pennsylvania Secretary of Environmental Protection Katie McGinty 64,754 (7.66%). Third party candidates Ken Krawchuk (L) and Paul Glover (G) failed to qualify for the November ballot. Wolf and Corbett engaged in three debates: at the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry annual dinner in Hershey on Sept. 22 (>); at the CBS Broadcast Center in Philadelphia on Oct. 1; and at WTAE-TV with the LWV of PA in Pittsburgh on Oct. 8 (>). The National Institute on Money in Politics reported this was the second most expensive race of the cycle; candidates raised a total of $91.9 million: Wolf $36.3 million (including $10 million from the candidate), Corbett $34.0 million, Allyson Schwartz $9.3 million, Rob McCord $8.3 million, and Katie McGinty $3.3 million (>).
