ELECT ATTORNEY GENERAL

GEORGE "DUKE" DEUKMEJIAN GOVERNOR

ELECT ATTORNEY GENERAL
GEORGE "DUKE" DEUKMEJIAN GOVERNOR
He'll get California working again

George Deukmejian will:
Work to create more jobs by expanding current businesses and attracting new businesses to California.

George Deukmejian will:
Immediately reform California's arbitrary and burdensome regulatory system; this means more jobs for Californians.

George Deukmejian will:
Work to establish courts that are as concerned with the rights of victims as the accused and get tough anti-crime laws like the death penalty enforced.

George Deukmejian will:
Strive for a smaller, more efficient state government. Duke knows that's what we meant when we voted overwhelmingly for Proposition 13.

George Deukmejian will:
Work as an advocate of agriculture. His decisive approach will help to stimulate a productive future for agriculture. He will assist California to compete fairly with farmers in other states. And through results oriented leadership the state will be spared costly mistakes such as the Med fly fiasco.

George Deukmejian has:
Served as an Assemblyman. Duke began in the State legislature in 1963 when he was elected as an Assemblyman from Long Beach. He was re-elected and his fellow legislators selected him as Assembly Minority Whip. George is respected by his colleagues.

George Deukmejian has:
Served as a State Senator. Duke became a State Senator in 196 7 and was re-elected three times, serving a total of 12 years. He was selected Senate Majority Leader in 1969 and Senate Minority Leader in 1974. Duke has been recognized as a leader by his peers and he knows the legislative process.

George Deukmejian has:
Been California's Attorney General for nearly 4 years. As the Director of the Department of Justice, he knows how to cut fat from government and make it more productive. Although the workload of the department has increased each year, under his effective administration, the work has been performed with fewer employees than when he took office.

WHAT CALIFORNIA NEEDS IS A CHANGE.
CALIFORNIA NEEDS GEORGE DEUKMEJIAN AS ITS GOVERNOR.

George Deukmejian has provided strong, decisive leadership to California; 4 years as an Assemblyman, 12 years as a State Senator, and nearly 4 years as California's Attorney General. That's nearly twenty years of experience in Sacramento, where a Governor must have experience if he's really going to make a difference
.
Duke knows what needs to be done, and he knows how to get it done. Duke's record speaks for itself. Legislation he authored includes:

• The "Use-A-Gun, Go-To-Prison" Law
• California's Death Penalty Statute
• The Senior Citizens Property Tax Assistance Act
• Mandatory Prison for Rapists

In fact, Deukmejian worked tirelessly to make California a better, safer place to live, work and raise a family. He authored over 180 laws during his sixteen years in the Legislature with that purpose in mind.

George Deukmejian has worked to solve California's problems. Let's give Deukmejian a chance to take his efforts to the Governor's office, where he will continue to provide leadership to California.

A STRONG FAMILY MAN
George and Gloria Deukmejian live in Long Beach with their teenage children George, and Andrea. Their elder daughter, Leslie, attends college in California. The Deukmejians know the importance of quallty education and improving California's education system is one of George's top priorities. George's own education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena College and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from St. Johns University School of Law. George served in the U.S. Army, is a former Deputy County Counsel of Los Angeles County, and was in the private practice of law for twenty years.

He'll Make California Work Again
For eight years California has wandered aimlessly. Our economy has stagnated, and the Jerry Brown "no growth" policies have led to unemployment at an unacceptable level. Crime has gone unchallenged, and now citizens are too afraid to walk the streets.

George Deukmejian is the only candidate for Governor who has consistently criticized Jerry Brown's lackluster, misguided administration and has proposed solid alternatives to alter the course and get California working again.

Duke plans to create an "era of opportunity" for California. His policies are based
on two goals: the creation of jobs and public safety.

The Law Enforcement Community has recognized that Attorney General
Deukmejian is the candidate who can best ensure the public safety.

Duke has been endorsed by almost every Police Chief and Sheriff in California as well as Mayor Bradley's own Los Angeles Police Protective League, the Latino Peace Officers Association, and the California Sheriffs Association. Over 50,000 of California's peace officers have endorsed Duke independently or through their organizations.

WE NEED ATTORNEY GENERAL DEUKMEJIAN AS GOVERNOR.
HE'LL GET CALIFORNIA WORKING AGAIN.

There is a difference.
In fact, there is a big difference between George Deukmejian and Tom Bradley on nearly every issue you could name.

Compare the candidates
George Deukmejian
Tom Bradley
Statewide Experience
George Deukmejian has nearly twenty years of statewide experience.

Tom Bradley has had no statewide experience.
Crime
George Deukmejian wrote the Death Penalty law for California. You know he will enforce it. He also supported the Victims' Bill of Rights.

Tom Bradley does not favor the death penalty but says he will enforce it. He opposed the Victims' Bill of Rights.
Taxes
George Deukmejian strongly opposes new tax increases; supported elimination of the Inheritance Tax; and supported indexing of personal income tax.
Tom Bradley as reported in the San Diego Union, said he would raise taxes before he would cut deeper into state social welfare programs, opposed elimination of the Inheritance Tax; and opposed indexing of personal income tax.

Judicial Appointments
George Deukmejian believes too many judges are too lenient. He opposed Chief Justice Rose Bird and Jerry Brown's other liberal judicial appointments.
Tom Bradley served as Honorary State Chairman to retain Rose Bird on the Supreme Court.
