Larry Elder Makes an Abbreviated Trip to Venice                                          ...back >
Sept. 8, 2021 - After voting in Fairfax, leading Republican recall candidate Larry Elder arrived in Venice on his "Recall Express" bus.  He was met by supporters, local residents and a crowd of cameramen and reporters.
Local residents including Soledad Ursua (at right) and Chie Lunn (second from right) showed Elder around and briefed him on the problems associated with the homeless living in tent encampments on the street.  Lunn said enforcement is the key, pointing to nearby areas where the tents and RVs have not proliferated.  Another resident said methamphetamines are at the root of the problem.  Ursua and Lunn also showed Caitlyn Jenner around about a month ago on Aug. 12.
The group proceeded past Gold's Gym and up Sunset Ave.
However, after a block, at 3rd Ave. the group was met by several hecklers.
The recall campaign has attracted increased national attention in the last week; at right is the Washington Post's David Weigel.  Elder's Venice tour came to an unexpected conclusion.  After an egg was thrown, the group continued on for a bit, but then Elder got in an SUV and left the scene.  He did not actually talk with any of the homeless.
