Growing Nevada's Economy and Creating Good-Paying Jobs

Four years ago, Nevada's economy was at a low point, with record unemployment, a crushing housing crisis, and a crumbling economy. But Nevadans never gave up.

Together, we've fought our way back and are now one of the fastest recovering states in America.

We've created new jobs, expanded homegrown businesses, and brought new companies and whole new industries to Nevada: Governor Sandoval set an ambitious goal of 50,000 new jobs in our state by the end of his first term. We've exceeded that goal, and there are nearly 100,000 Nevadans with new jobs in the last four years.

We've come a long way, but there's more to do. Nevada's comeback is just getting started.

Making Our Education System Better For Our Children's Future

Brian Sandoval is strongly committed to strengthening Nevada's public education system for our children.

Governor Sandoval sponsored and supported new laws that allow for performance-based evaluations for teaching, reformed teacher tenure laws, provided additional funding for English language learners, established smaller class sizes for kindergarten, and expanded all day kindergarten to two-thirds of Nevada's schools.

There is still much to be done for our kids. We must be committed to raising standards, increasing accountability fpr administrators, creating more school choice, and funding education to support 21st century schools.

Nevada's children are Governor Sandoval's top priority.

Mark Hutchison is a husband, father and grandfather, constitutional lawyer, business owner, and state senator. A third-generation Nevadan, Mark is the product of Nevada public education, as are his six children. He will focus on promoting policies to create jobs, strengthen families, and improve educational opportunities for students.

In the state senate, Mark was widely recognized as an effective legislator and practical problem solver. As lieutenant governor, Mark will focus on continuing Nevada's economic comeback and improving our public schools so our children get the education they deserve.

Working Hard to Create Jobs
  • As a small business owner who has to meet payroll every two weeks, Mark knows that getting government out of the way of small businesses promotes job creation and lasting economic growth.
  • Mark supported eliminating tax burdens for tens of thousands of small businesses to foster economic growth.
  • Mark understands the sacrifices our businessmen and businesswomen make on a daily basis. After putting himself through college while working at Ahern Rentals and graduating from law school at BYU, he returned to Nevada and built his law firm from the ground up. He now employs nearly 100 people.
  • Mark has earned the endorsement of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce, The Chamber NV, and the Nevada Chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business. They know Mark will support policies that create jobs, and put Nevadans back to work.
Focusing on Education
  • Mark believes that providing a high-quality education to Nevada's students must be a priority for the state.
  • Mark strongly supports ensuring the parents' right to choose schools that are fitting for their children.
  • Mark will work to improve public education by advocating for students, parents, and teachers and working to direct funds straight to classrooms instead of to entrenched bureaucracies.
  • When faced with a potential lack of funding for Nevada's education system during the last legislative session, Mark worked closely with Governor Sandoval and other legislators to ensure the funding gap was filled.
