Missouri Women Standing with Todd Akin

We think for Ourselves...

"Having been invited to the wedding reception of Todd's youngest son, I was reluctant to go, as I feared I would not fit in the crowd of conservatives that were sure to be present. As a single mother, saved alcoholic, and student, I had expected bad experiences with those who cal I themselves "Conservative Republicans" and had no interest in meeting Congressman Akin. But my daughters and I did attend, and I did my best to fade into the background so as not to be noticed. Not long into the evening, Todd approached me. He absolutely ruined my stereotype of a conservative Republican with his eagerness to meet me, to inquire about me, to make me feel comfortable and to converse with me about things that matter in life. It's rather humbling to admit that I nearly let preconceived notions and stereotypes define Todd as my enemy rather than the friend that he turned out to be. I am thrilled that Todd fights the good fight with endurance and that his name will be on the ballot in November. I am excited to cast my vote for him, and to support him as he stands for our state and its citizens."
"I had expected bad experiences with those who call themselves 'Conservative Republicans'... "

"As a middle-income mother, having the right to make educational choices that meet the needs of my family is important. I believe that Todd will continue to support local control of education and that is why I stand with him today."

"As I grow older and watch my daughter care for her daughters, I want to know that their future as well as mine is secure. I know that Todd makes wise decisions that give hope for this economy, and that is why I stand with him today."

– Stephanie, RN

"I am a married mother of 13. We are a very pro-life family. Abortion in the black community is devastating. We are 12% of the population and we make up 37% of all abortions. I want to vote for someone who respects the I ife of our black children, and respects I ife in general. Todd Akin has a strong moral character, he stands by his convictions and his voting record proves that. We are moving forward to win this race."

– Zina

"I am a doctor in a pediatric subspecialty and a mom of four small children. It is so important that physicians and not politicians make decisions regarding healthcare for our families. I went into medicine thinking that the majority of my time would be spent interacting with patients, but the reality is that new government regulations demand hours of electronic charting driving up costs and compromising care. Todd supports sensible healthcare reform and that is why I stand with Todd."
"It is so important that physicians and not politicians make decisions regarding healthcare..."

WHO IS TODD AKIN... really?

"In high school, I had a chance to shadow my father for a week in Washington D.C. I was amazed at just how intense his job was. All day he was hurrying across marble floors from voting to meetings to voting to more meetings. He had to understand the many bills crossing his desk and be ready to discuss them with constituents, staffers and colleagues alike. But what impressed me far more than the energy or intellect required for such a rigorous job, was the humility and care for people that so marked his interactions with others. After a very long, exhausting day, he took the time to speak to the security guards, calling them by name and asking about their families. He would stop to chat with the ladies who run the dry-cleaning shop under the Capitol. These conversations were marked with the same friendliness, genuine respect, and care with which he treated various dignitaries he had met in the hallway. I then understood what makes my father so unique in the political world. He truly believes that "all men (and women) are created equal." That he, as an elected representative, is "a servant of the people," is not just an empty phrase, but a belief that guides his life."
"What impressed me was the humility and care for people that so marked his interactions with others"
