Notes: Sen. Patrick Leahy (D) won a seventh term, trouncing small business owner and first time candidate Len Britton (R) and five other candidates. Britton was unopposed in the Republican primary, while Leahy won the Democratic primary with 88.9% of the vote. Debates included Leahy and Britton on Vermont Public Radio's "Vermont Edition" on Oct. 19 (>). The race was not competitive financially. Open Secrets reports the Leahy campaign raised $4.9 million, spent $4.1 million and finished with cash on hand of $2.1 million compared to the Britton campaign's budget of less than $250,000 (>).
