Tom Barrett's Plan for Getting Wisconsin Working
Tom Barrett's plan focuses on the immediate job creation that Wisconsin urgently needs, while also reforming the state's entire economic development approach to make it more efficient and effective.

  • Help for start-ups.
  • Tax credits for companies that want to create jobs.
  • Assistance when small businesses want to expand.

.
AS GOVERNOR, TOM WILL:

  • Protect the jobs we have and create the jobs we need.
  • Lead a bipartisan effort to cut waste in state government.
  • Protect the middle class from unfair tax hikes.
  • Improve our schools, from kindergarten to college.
  • Fight for Wisconsin's farmers.

Tom Barrett has always called Wisconsin home. He grew up in a middle-class
family on Milwaukee's West Side, and worked his way through college and law school at UW Madison with jobs at County Stadium and Harley-Davidson.

As Mayor, he helped create a regional, bipartisan economic development group that has attracted and retained hundreds of jobs across Southeastern Wisconsin. With Tom leading the way, long-abandoned industrial areas have been transformed into thriving commercial centers that are home to thousands of jobs.

And just last year, Republic Airways kept and brought more than 1,500 jobs to Wisconsin thanks to the targeted tax breaks that Tom supported.

Under Tom Barrett's leadership, violent crime in Milwaukee has decreased by over 20% -- to its lowest levels in more than 20 years.

Tom and his wife Kris, a teacher, have four children, a boy and three girls. Their home, on Milwaukee's West Side, is in the same neighborhood where Tom grew up, and it's the same area he represented in both the State House and in Congress.
