JOHN HICKENLOOPER AND JOE GARCIA: MOVING COLORADO FORWARD TOGETHER

John Hickenlooper has a real handle on growing our economy. As a business leader and Mayor, John Hickenlooper has a record of creating jobs, balancing budgets, and building successful teams. As a first step to building a great gubernatorial team, John brought Joe Garcia onboard. Together, they will bring a combined record of success and experience to the job. Their plan is based on these common sense principles:

TIGHTEN GOVERNMENT PURSE STRINGS...

•  Hickenlooper is a fiscal conservative – a successful business owner who balanced budgets and met payrolls, and a Denver mayor who eliminated $200 million in budget deficits.

•  Hickenlooper's also a cost-cutter who's implemented ideas like cleaning city office buildings during the day so the lights could be turned off at night, and changing city laws to run Denver more like a business.

•  As Governor, Hickenlooper will cut down on non-essential administrative services to protect vital services like education and public safety. Like Colorado's families, state government needs to do more with less.

"Joe's success working colloborotively to improve education in Colorodo and my experience s a progmatic businessmen creating jobs and balancing tough budgets make us the perfect team to address Colorado's challenges."
– John Hickenlooper

RAISE THE BAR ON EDUCATION...

•  As mayor, Hickenlooper visited all 151 schools in Denver to talk with teachers, students, and parents about how to improve public education.

•  Hickenlooper's education plan will work to replace the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) with a more timely, strategic assessment tool, and to create career-oriented partnerships with community-based organizations and businesses.

•  Hickenlooper picked Colorado State University President Joe Garcia as his running mate because education is a priority. Both Hickenlooper and Garcia believe without a strong education system, job creation and economic development cannot be sustained.

STRENGTHEN COLORADO'S ECONOMIC BRAND...

•  Jobs are Hickenlooper's top priority – as Denver mayor he leveraged his business experience to attract new jobs in technology, aerospace, and tourism.

•  Experts have cited Denver as the second best city in the country for business and one of the top ten cities to move a business to. Hicken looper will expand his "jobs first" approach to ALL of Colorado.

• Hickenlooper's Job Creation Roadmap – the only comprehensive plan put forth by a gubernatorial candidate, focuses on encouraging job growth at the local level and branding Colorado a national center for innovation.

"We're going to brand Colorado as a center for innovation to encourage new businesses, create jobs and turn Colorado's economy around."
– John Hickenlooper

A COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVER AND CREATIVE EXECUTIVE

•  Named one of America's top five mayors by TIME Magazine

•  Hickenlooper helped lead the passage of FasTracks – a job-creating transportation initiative that had the unanimous support of mayors in the more than 30 towns in the region.

•  Cut red tape for small businesses and focused government energies toward fostering business growth

•  Reorganized Denver's financial system to make government run more like a business

•  Helped create a partnership with the Denver Public Schools that contributed to the first improvements in CSAP score gains in decades

•  Established the Road Home program which cut chronic homelessness in Denver by 60% in 4 years and became a model for other cities.

MEET JOE GARCIA...

•  Garcia's success as President of Colorado State University-Pueblo has come through his unique leadership abilities and his skill at forging partnerships with the public and private sectors.

•  Joe worked to improve the CSU-Pueblo's financial issues, and revitalize student enrollment through a dedication to collaboration and teamwork – even worked tirelessly with alumni to bring back the treasured Thunderwolves football program.
