1992 Republican Presidential Primary

                  Fundraising Letter (8 Pages).

David Duke
Representative 1989 - 1992
500 N. Arnoult Rd.
Metairie, LA 70001

Dear Friend and Supporter,

We've been together. On the same team.

Fighting for our rights as Americans. And fighting for our families.

Standing up for our heritage. And our Christian values.

Now ... more than ever ... I need you.

I wish I could visit with you in your home. And share this matter with you personally.

But time simply won't permit it. So, I'm sending you this letter.

You've been such a faithful friend and supporter.

Can I count on you to be by my side again in my race for President?

In my race for Louisiana Governor, you proved yourself loyal and courageous.

Words can never properly express the tremendous blessing you've been to me and my family.

Together, you and I sent a bold message throughout the land. Our message rang strong. It rang true. And it rang from the heart.

Our message?: "WE'RE SICK AND TIRED OF POLITICIANS TAKING US FOR GRANTED. WE'RE STANDING-UP FOR OUR HERITAGE BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!"

That's why we made the run-off and defeated a powerful incumbent in the process. In spite of the vicious, media-smear and millions of dollars from special interests' opposition.

Although we lost the general election, we won a strong majority of the white vote. In a state

politically suffering from the second largest bloc vote in America.

Did the liberal politicians and their allies listen? You bet they did.

Your generosity made me a national force for our ideals. Now, we're fighting not just in Louisiana. But across America for those ideals.

That's why I need your help again.

You see, we struck fear in the souls of the political establishment.

Without me, and people like you behind me, no one could call their hand.

But now, our principles are spreading across the land. Like a prairie fire spread by the wind.

My campaign was a genuine national grass-roots movement to return government power to you and our fellow hard-working taxpayers.

It's the beginning of throwing out all self-seeking power-brokers. The same politicians who keep their jobs by kow-towing to the special interests are giving away the U.S.

Which means billions more for people too lazy to work. And for foreign countries who spit in our face.

Meanwhile, what do these Washington insiders do for you? Stick you with the bill.

I hoped George Bush was a conservative who would lead us to a better, more prosperous future. I prayed for his success and commitment to conservative principles.

I was sadly let down.

Look at the facts. George Bush:

**As a candidate said to "read his lips. No new taxes." Then what does he do? Approves the largest tax increase in U.S. history--an extra $2,600 for the typical family.

**Bails-out scandalous-plagued savings and loans,

hooking the taxpayers for an extra $500 billion.

** Increased government regulations costing consumers $100 billion more a year.

** Said he was against quotas. Then signed into law the biggest reverse discrimination, anti-white, quota bill in history.

** Allows massive illegal immigration to continue.

** Wants free trade with Mexico which will destroy thousands of U.S. businesses and millions of jobs.

What's the result of this tragic record? The American dream has turned into a nightmare for millions of people.

Like Nero, George Bush is fiddling while our country burns from the fire of economic calamity.

Since George Bush was elected President:

++ Taxes are at an all peace-time high.

++ The U.S. economy has skidded from annual growth of 4.5% to a  0.4% -- a drop of over 100%.

++ The number of people thrown out of their jobs has jumped 25%.

++ The federal deficit skyrocketed to $348 billion--a huge 125% increase.

++ We are a whopping $10 TRILLION in debt, especially to foreign powers like Japan. This amounts to $160,000 per family.

I'll be frank. My decision to run for President was the hardest I've ever made.

I knew I'd be opening-up myself and my family to non-stop attacks. And real personal danger from every radical leftist and minority racist.

The abuse I suffer from the under-handed media tactics takes its toil on me. It's more than most

people can take.

But the future assaults I'll receive will make those in the past look like love-taps.

This time, I'm fighting more than just left-wing groups like the media and the NAACP.

The infinite might of the White House will be against me. And their fellow Rockefeller Republicans and "One World" allies in the Trilateral Commission.

They'll do everything in their power to discredit me.

Honestly, I've been tempted to stop being a martyr. Walk away from it. Devote all my time to my family. And return to the private sector where I can make a good living.
But I've made a commitment to YOU. And to this country.

To fight until your rights as an American citizen are restored.

I'm talking about your right to a life free from fear, instead of being ravaged by crime ...

... the right to a job and promotion based upon your ability, instead of the color of your skin ...

... the right to keep the fruits of your labor, instead of having it taxed away on wasteful government programs.

You may be thinking: "David, you make a lot of sense. And I believe your heart's in the right place. But do you REALLY think you have a chance of defeating an incumbent President of your own party?"

I don't want to mislead you. I am fighting an uphill battle.

Remember San Juan? That was an uphill battle literally. And a victory (by Teddy Roosevelt).
.
In fact, challengers winning the nomination over an incumbent President of their own party is not as rare of an event as you might think.

Just look what happened to Lyndon B. Johnson.

And Reagan almost beat Gerald Ford in 1976.

There's more. The results from a recent Time magazine and Cable News Network poll are in.

Due primarily to Bush's lack of concern for the millions of people hurting from the recession, less than half of the country approves of his job as President.

Another question was, "Do you think Bush is doing a good job of handling the economy?"

Only 18% of the people said "Yes."

That's not all. Award-winning and conservative columnist Warren Brookes is well known for his sensible and articulate explanation of complex economic activities.

In a recent speech to the American Legislative Exchange Council, Brookes called the Bush Administration "brain-dead and tired."

Brookes stated due to Bush's poor handling of the economy, Bush will be unelectable "without a really stunning economic turnaround over the next three months."

History bears Brookes out. In fact, no incumbent President has won reelection when economic growth has been less than 2.9% during the year prior to the election.

Under President Bush, after-inflation growth in 1991 was a NEGATIVE 0.4%.

I feel sorry for President Bush. I truly do.

I would like nothing better than for him to successfully move our country ahead.

Unfortunately, Mr. Bush is too accommodating for his own good. He wants to be liked by the liberals in Congress.

As someone who has experienced the pains of being vilified and despised, I don't blame him for wanting to be liked.

But it's more important to stand-up for convictions and truth than to win a popularity contest with Congress.

The working people of this country are hurting.

Without the help they desperately need, I fear taxpayers will turn their backs on the Republican Party, kick Mr. Bush out, and put a liberal Democrat in the White House.

If the Republicans are to retain the Presidency, we must nominate a conservative who appeals to the forgotten working men and women. And who will stay true to their principles.

That, in a nutshell, is why I'm running for President.

As for my appeal to the electorate, just look at these facts:

FACT:  According to the Southern Political Director at one of the Republican National
Committees, I would get a MINIMUM of 35% of the vote in southern primaries against Bush or anyone else.

FACT:  In a Presidential poll for the Center for Politics and Journalism, I CAME IN JUST ONE PERCENTAGE POINT BEHIND GEORGE BUSH!!!

This fact is even more astonishing when you realize the poll was conducted during the middle of the war with Iraq while Bush's approval rating was the highest of any President in this century.

Still, though; I realize the difficulty of unseating an incumbent President. Does that mean I should forget running?

Absolutely not!! To save face and have the greatest possible strength in the general election, Bush must win by huge margins in the primary. To accomplish this objective, he must appeal to the large number of conservatives who form the Republican Party.

With competition from a conservative like me with my broad base of support, Bush will be forced to return to his conservative moorings. And stay there.

MAKE NO MISTAKE, THOUGH. I AM IN THIS RACE TO WIN.

And to win, I must have your help.

Right now, I need to organize the campaign and my first primary and get on the ballot in most Super Tuesday states by March 10th.

And TV advertising is necessary to get my message to the America voters. I will do another hard-hitting nationwide TV show.

All this requires $1 million.

I'm asking you to help me win the Republican nomination by giving as generous a contribution as you can.

I've suggested a specific amount on the enclosed "Campaign Commitment Card."

I know times are tough. After all, we're in a recession.

But I desperately need your help. I don't accept money from special interests. And the Republican Party isn't about to help me.

This means my only hope is from people like you.

HERE'S THE EXCITING PART!! For every dollar you give up to $250 the federal government matches those dollars.

So, if you give $100, your gift ends up being $200.

If you can manage as much as $250, I'll receive $500.

This federal matching funds program is only for Presidential candidates. Its purpose is to help candidates like me who refuse special interest money.

But this money doesn't go to just anyone. Only to serious candidates. And to prove a candidate is serious, he must raise at least $5,000 each in 20 different states.

That's why I hope you can help me by giving as much as you can possibly afford.

You may not want your name to appear on my campaign contribution report.

I respect your need for privacy.

You'll be pleased to know any contribution to a presidential candidate up to $200 is kept confidential. It will NOT appear on my campaign report.

One last thing.

There's no way I can match George Bush dollar-for-dollar. I fully expect him to raise ten times as much money as I. This means my TV advertising will be a fraction of his.

To get my message to as many people as possible, I'm giving away audio cassette tapes of my Presidential campaign announcement for contributions of $50. And for $250, I'll include a video tape.

I'd like to send you these tapes. Then you could replay them for your friends who believe like you and I do.

You could even host a party or coffee and, in essence via tape, have "David Duke" speak to them.

The bottom line is this: Without your help, I cannot win this race. Or help pull George Bush and the Republican Party back to right.

Sincerely,
David Duke
