SAMPLE LETTER

January XX, 1992

Dear Thomas Family:

My name is Laura Retzler and I am a recent college graduate of the University of Iowa where I majored in political science and Russian. I spend most of my free time reading, talking with my grandma, doing calligraphy and crosstitch, and volunteering.

My reason for writing this letter is to ask you to consider writing in Mario Cuomo's name on your ballot on February 18 to help draft him as our next Democratic presidential nominee.

Like so many other Americans, I believe that Mario Cuomo is the strongest leader in the Democratic Party. Throughout his political career, he has shown that he understands and cares about the major issues facing our nation: the economy, health care, education, crime, and poverty. He also articulates these problems better than any other political leader and offers practical solutions.

I think it's time for Americans to decide for themselves who their leaders should be. If you agree that Mario Cuomo' is that person, or is at least preferable to the other candidates, then you can make a big difference in the 1992 election, and in the direction of our country, by writing his name in on February 18.

Please be assured that your write-in for Mario Cuomo would NOT be a wasted vote. It could be the most important one you'll ever make. Write-ins have been successful in the past (ie: Lodge in '64 and LBJ in '68) and could bring Mario Cuomo back into the race.

Please help send a message on February 18th that you demand the very best leader we have by writing in Mario Cuomo's name on your ballot. If you'd like more information about the Draft Cuomo Movement, or if you'd like to become part of our campaign, please don't hesitate to call the Draft Cuomo office at 1-800-'92-CUOMO. Also, please feel free to contact me at home.

Sincerely,

Laura Retzler
