Amy Klobuchar Announces Debate Guests
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar has invited Fran Parr, Shelly Elkington, and Nicole Smith-Holt to accompany her to the first DNC Democratic presidential debate in Miami.Nicole Smith-Holt — In 2017, Nicole Smith-Holt’s son died from diabetic ketoacidosis at age 26 because he struggled to afford his insulin prescription and resorted to rationing his medicine. Under Nicole’s insurance, Alec had been paying $200-300 a month to manage his Type 1 diabetes. When he turned 26, he was forced off his mother’s insurance, driving the cost for his insulin to nearly $1,300 a month—$200 more than Alec’s biweekly paycheck from his full-time job.
Fran Parr — In April 2019, Fran’s Pacific Junction, Iowa home was submerged nine feet underwater. The historic, widespread flooding breached levees and left homes like Fran’s uninhabitable for weeks. Senator Klobuchar met Fran during her tour of the flooding in southwest Iowa this spring.
Shelly Elkington — In 2008, Shelly Elkington’s daughter Casey Jo Schulte was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and was over-prescribed pain medication. After battling an opioid addiction for years, Casey Jo died in 2015 at age 26. Following her death, Shelly became an advocate for victims of overprescribing and drug abuse and has worked with Senator Klobuchar to combat the opioid crisis.

Beto O'Rourke to Join South Florida Leaders and Activists at
Homestead
MIAMI, FLA.
-- Beto O’Rourke will travel to Homestead on Thursday to meet with
local leaders and activists who are leading the opposition to a camp
where thousands of teenagers are being held after coming to this
country seeking refuge. Beto will be joined by representatives from
Witness Homestead, Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC), American Friends
Service Committee, Women’s March Florida Miami-Dade Chapter, and
Women’s March Florida. The trip -- first announced on Sunday, which was
the one year anniversary of a major rally to the facility in 2018 --
will follow this week’s debate in Miami.
Beto has been a reliable leader in challenging the Trump Administration’s cruel and inhumane immigration policies. Last year, Beto organized and led a 2,000 person Father’s Day march to a child tent camp that had been erected in Tornillo to raise awareness of family separation. In hopes of raising more awareness, he later brought a bipartisan congressional delegation to tour the facility. Beto continued to return to the camp until all of the children were successfully released and the facility was shut down.

Marianne Williamson for President
DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE MARIANNE WILLIAMSON TO VISIT HOMESTEAD DETENTION CENTER FOR MIGRANT CHILDREN AFTER THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL MIAMI DEBATES
The Homestead child detention center is run by Comprehensive Health Services, LLC (CHS) and is a subsidiary of Caliburn International, contracted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Former Trump Administration Chief-of-Staff John Kelly recently joined the board of Caliburn International.
As President, Marianne Williamson will push for legislative reforms that include a full path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who do not have serious criminal background issues. The cost of naturalization must also be reduced and resources increased to help people navigate that process more easily and humanely.
“Today, people seeking asylum on the southern border of the United States are being scapegoated as criminals, their children deceitfully taken from their arms with no plan as to how they will be returned. In violation of American law, which mandates that almost anyone who sets foot in the United States has full constitutional protection here, and almost universally accepted human rights, these asylum seekers have been grossly denied fair protection,” stated Williamson.
Williamson was invited to Homestead weeks ago by Mr. Joshua Rubin of Witness Homestead. Mr. Rubin, a leader of Witness Homestead, previously held vigil for three months at the Tornillo child detention camp in Texas. It closed in January after pressure from politicians and activists caused the government to modify its requirements for releasing children to their sponsors and families. Rubin’s Facebook page, now called Witness: Tornillo. Target: Homestead, has over 10,000 members.

Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada. In addition, we are releasing an
extended 60-second online ad that will be playing on digital platforms
in the coming days. Ads can be found attached, and full transcripts are

they are.
30-Second Television Spot (running IA and NH Wednesday, SC and NV
Thursday):
“I’m Seth Moulton. I won’t be on the debate stage tonight, so I’m
introducing myself here. I served four combat tours in Iraq, a war I
spoke out against. I’m progressive, I’m practical, and I can beat
Donald Trump. We all know what a terrible person Donald Trump is, but
what we need to talk about is what a terrible President he is. At home,
he’s broken every promise. Our allies are more concerned than our
enemies. Iowa/New Hampshire/South Carolina/Nevada, it’s time for a new
generation of leadership. I’m Seth Moulton, and I approve this message.”
60-Second Digital Ad:
"I’m Seth Moulton. I served four combat tours in Iraq, a war that I
spoke out against. I’m progressive, I’m practical, and I can beat
Donald Trump. We know what a terrible person Donald Trump is, what we
need to talk about what a terrible President he is. At home, he has
tried to take away health coverage for millions, and his trade wars are
bankrupting our farmers and factories. Abroad, our allies are more
worried about America than our enemies. And globally, he’s destroyed
progress on the defining challenge of our time: climate change. Our
next President must be able to bring this country together and win this
election, because the stakes are too high. It’s time for the generation
that fought in Iraq to step in, and it’s time for the generation that
sent us there to step aside. It’s time for a new generation of
leadership. I’m Seth Moulton, and I approve this message."

BACKGROUND: Democrats are laying the groundwork to defeat Trump in Florida
Florida is a true battleground, and Democrats have already begun laying the groundwork and infrastructure for our eventual presidential nominee to win the state in 2020.
Ahead of the first Democratic presidential primary debate in Miami, here are some key facts to know about the DNC and Florida Democratic Party’s early initiatives and programs:
* ON-THE-GROUND, EARLY ORGANIZING: In partnership with the DNC’s Organizing Corp 2020 program, Florida Democrats already have over 90 field organizers on the ground, working to register and mobilize the voters we need to win. Florida Democrats will register hundreds of thousands of voters by the 2020 presidential primary.
* VOTER PROTECTION: Democrats are committed to ensuring every legal vote is counted. This year the Florida Democratic Party has launched a new year-round voter protection and education department -- including a hotline and initiatives to track and respond to voter suppression tactics.
* EARLY INVESTMENTS TO REACH COMMUNITIES OF COLOR: Democrats are making a multi-million dollar investment to ensure we communicate with communities of color and are doing it earlier than ever before. In addition to organizers on the ground, these efforts include advertising in key outlets, including African-American print and radio and the launch of a new, Spanish language weekly radio program.
* HOLDING TRUMP ACCOUNTABLE: The DNC and the Florida Democratic Party will continue aggressively holding Trump accountable for his broken promises and toxic agenda. Some recent examples: this week DNC Chair Perez wrote about Trump’s attacks on the Latino community in a Miami Herald guest column; FDP Chair Rizzo joined Representatives Soto and Demings to slam Trump’s record on issues like health care; and Democrats responded to Trump’s campaign relaunch in Orlando by highlighting the personal stories of Floridians who have been hurt by his administration.
