Nov. 30, 2018 - Bill Weidemeyer, Superintendent of House Office Buildings in the Architect of the Capitol, presided over the lottery, calling the incoming freshmen up to the dias in alphabetical order (1, 2, 3).  This is a lively event; Members-elect attempt all sorts of measures to bring good luck.  Topping the list, Rep.-elect Sharice Davids (D, KS-3), who engaged in eight mixed martial arts fights from 2006-14, dropped to the floor and did several push-ups.  Rep.-elect Andy Kim (D, NJ-3) brought a four-leaf clover.  Several Members-elect did a bit of a dance.  Others brought their wives up to do the drawing.  Most members did the drawing themselves, but several delegated the task to one of their aides.  Rep.-elect Ben Cline (R, VA-6) received an enthusiastic response when he drew the "1."  Rep-elect Mark Green (R, TN-7) received an equally enthusiastic response upon drawing number 85.
