OUTSIDE WARSAW

Beyond Warszaw, our travels in focused mostly on urban areas where we could learn more about history, including stops in Gdańsk, Katowice, Częstochowa, Kraków, Auschwitz, and Nowa Huta.  We did not visit some of the more scenic areas of Poland such as the the Tatra Mountains or see much of rural areas except through the window of the train going by.  Marcin did take me out to the country once, and I remember standing in a potato field.  It is important to recognize that Poland does have a significant rural and agricultural population, about 14.8 million people or 38.7 percent in 1990 (>).
