Plurality: 113,010 votes (58.25 percentage points). WY
Secretary of State
Notes: Gov. Mark Gordon (R) coasted to a second term, defeating Theresa A. Livingston (D), a retired BLM employee from Worland, and Jared J. Baldes (L) from Riverton. Livingston ran her own campaign. She focused on equality, Medicare expansion, and the economy. She said she sought to explain what she was for and avoid bad-mouthing other candidates. Livingston hoped to get more people to vote and encourage more Democrats to run for office, but Wyoming is difficult terrain for Democrats, and the lack of a campaign organization and limited resources led to the meager result. Additionally, supporters of Brent Bien, the "America First" candidate who finished second in the Republican primary, organized a write in effort. Bien wrote he was "honored and humbled" but emphasized that he was not running, funding or coordinating the grassroots effort. The three candidates on the ballot participated in a debate hosted by Wyoming PBS at Central Wyoming College on Oct. 13 (>). August 16 Primaries Gordon made his campaign announcement in Buffalo on Apr. 4, 2022 (>). In the primary he faced four challengers: Brent Bien, a retired Marine Corps colonel from Sheridan; James Scott Quick, an oilfield business owner and Marine Corps veteran from Douglas; and Rex Rammell, a veterinarian from Rock Springs who was the Constitution Party nominee for governor in 2018 and has run for office half a dozen times. Gordon won 61.54% of 164,351 votes tallied, followed by Bien (29.55%), Rammell and Quick. On the Democratic side, two little known candidates vied for the nomination: Livingston, from Worland, who had run for state Senate in 2020, and Rex Wilde, a retired cabinet maker from Cheyenne, who has run for office multiple times. Of 7,223 votes tallied, Livingston won 69.13% to 27.91% for Wilde. Turnout in the primary was boosted by the high-profile Liz Cheney-Harriet Hageman U.S. House race; 40.8% of voting age population turned outde, the highest level since 1994.
