Sept. 4, 2021 - Ten days of
voting remain in the recall election, and
Gov. Gavin Newsom and his allies are making
a forceful argument for a "No" vote. Newsom
kicked off his final get out the vote tour
rallying with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)
before a crowd of around 500 people at
Culver City High School. Newsom was sharply
critical of the leading Republican recall
candidate Larry Elder on a long list of
issues. He declared, "Racial justice is on
the ballot, economic justice is on the
ballot, social justice is on the ballot,
environmental justice is on the ballot,
women's rights are on the ballot." Newsom
also said that while Trump was defeated in
2020, "We did not defeat Trumpism; it's
still alive all across this country and, as
the senator, said it has come to the state
of California." In closing, Newsom
contrasted the COVID response and outcomes
in California to that in states such as
Florida and Texas. "This race is about life
and death," he said. [transcript].
