Aug. 12, 2021 - In her first
stop upon her return to the campaign,
Caitlyn Jenner traveled to Venice where she
focused on the homelessness situation.
Accompanied by several local residents and a
scrum of reporters and photographers, she
walked through a neighborhood past RVs and
tents, then spoke to the issue and fielded
questions. While highlighting three
local residents in particular, and praising
the work of the L.A. County Sheriff
Department, Jenner dismissed Gov. Newsom's
approach as throwing money at the
problem. Jenner said of the homeless,
"These are Americans. These are citizens.
These are people in need. We need to help
them in a compassionate way. And we need to
solve this issue. It is not going to be
easy, but we need to solve this issue. And
this has to be, the homeless issue has to be
a priority." At the same time, she
said, "We have to reclaim our public space.
We have to regulate our public space, and
those laws have to be followed." [transcript]
Jenner has been absent from the campaign
trail as she fulfilled a contract in
Australia; she has just 33 days until Sept.
14, Election Day, and she will miss the
first three debates.
