DEMOCRAT for MARYLAND GOVERNOR

WES MOORE'S
VISION FOR MARYLAND

It's time to create a state where no one is left behind. With Wes Moore as Governor and Aruna Miller as Lt. Governor, we'll have a team focused on delivering opportunity and prosperity to every Marylander.

QUALITY PUBLIC EDUCATION
Wes & Aruna will strengthen Maryland schools by extending tutoring programs, increasing funding for digital devices, raising teacher pay, guaranteeing pre-K for every child in need, and providing more equitable funding so every student can receive a world-class public education. And they will close the digital divide by bringing high-speed internet across the state.

AN ECONOMY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE
To lift everyone up, Wes & Aruna will raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2023, ensure every Marylander has access to paid leave, and break down barriers that are preventing small businesses from growing. And they'II build the workforce of the future by funding apprenticeships and investing in STEM education.

AFFORDABLE & ACCESSIBLE HEALTH CARE
The pandemic highlighted the need for universal high-quality health care. Wes & Aruna will strengthen our health care system by expanding coverage to uninsured Marylanders, solving the staffing shortage of nurses at our hospitals, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs.

SAFER COMMUNITIES
Wes & Aruna know that the crime we're seeing in too many communities is unacceptable. They will address this head-on by investing in community violence interruption programs to get guns off our streets, increasing resources for probation and parole officers, and increasing funding for re-entry programs. And they will hold law enforcement officers who violate our trust accountable while also ensuring they have the support to keep violent offenders off our streets.

About Aruna Miller
Aruna Miller has dedicated her life to public service. As a Maryland State legislator for eight years, she created policies to invest in STEM education and streamline the regulatory process for small businesses and was a champion for working families, survivors of domestic abuse, and the environment. Aruna served on the House Appropriations Committee and House Ways & Means Committee, overseeing the state budget, personnel, and transportation.

Aruna spent 25 years working for the Department of Transportation in Montgomery County to improve traffic flow and public safety and create equitable transportation access to connect people to opportunities. Aruna will bring this experience to Annapolis to address pressing statewide transportation challenges and create solutions and more opportunities.

Aruna and her husband, David, have made Maryland their home for over 32 years where they raised three daughters, two of whom are University of Maryland graduates.

Wes Moore is running for Governor to expand work, wages, and wealth to every Marylander. He knows that too many across our state are being left behind and blocked from opportunity, and as Maryland's next Governor, he has the plan to change that.

Born in Maryland, Wes lost his father at a young age. Guided by a strong mother determined to see him succeed, he attended military school and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He then earned a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University. Wes served as a captain and paratrooper with the U.S. Army's 82nd Airborne Division, leading soldiers into combat in Afghanistan.

For the past four years, Wes served as the CEO of one of the nation's largest anti-poverty organizations, which distributed more than $600 miIlion in food, housing, education, and workforce training during his tenure to lift people out of poverty. Before that, Wes ran a Baltimore-based small business helping first-generation young people achieve education success.

Of the many titles Wes has held over the years, there are two that he's most proud of: husband and father. Wes and his wife, Dawn, live with their two children in Baltimore City.
