STRONG LEADERSHIP IN TOUGH TIMES

2022 Progress Report

.

FROM THE DESK OF GOVERNOR JB PRITZKER

AN UPDATE ON OUR PROGRESS

Dear Friends:

When I took office three years ago, I knew we had our work cut out for us. The previous administration had hollowed out our state government, decimated social services, and left Illinois in financial ruin. What I didn't expect was a pandemic challenging us in previously unthinkable ways—but if there's one thing I've learned as governor, it is that Illinois is resilient.

Together, we've followed the science and led the Midwest in vaccination rates. We've kept schools open safely and have gotten people back to work in good-paying jobs. We've expanded childcare, provided support for those facing pandemic-related hardships, and worked to reopen the economy while protecting the lives of Illinoisans everywhere. We're seeing signs of progress every single day, and I continue to be amazed at your strength and our state's resilience.

I promised that as your governor, I would work to put Springfield back on the side of working families. Even in the face of the greatest public health crisis of our lifetimes, that's exactly what we've done. We raised the minimum wage; invested in rebuilding our roads, bridges, and schools; passed meaningful criminal justice reform; protected voting rights; codified a woman's right to choose into state law; and expanded access to healthcare to over a hundred thousand more people.

I'm proud of the progress we've already made and feel excited about what we still can accomplish. As we continue to tackle this pandemic and overcome the issues Illinois families face, I'm confident in our ability to meet the challenge and continue to get big things done for the people of Illinois.

With gratitude,

JB Pritzker
