"OPPORTUNITY IN TEXAS
ought to be as big as our great state"
-LUPE VALDEZ

As Sheriff of Dallas County, Lupe reformed the promotion process so more women and people of color could climb the ladder, rooted out abuse and sexual harassment, and gave prisoners who deserved a second chance the opportunity to take a different path.

Lupe will continue challenging the old ways, so every Texan can have new opportunities and a shot at a better future. As Governor of Texas, Lupe promises to always fight for what's right:

*    Make our schools the best in the country far every Texas student.

*    Help women and families succeed and thrive.

*    Ensure working families aren't left behind in our growing economy.

*    Fix our broken health care system, for young and old alike.

GOVERNOR FOR A NEW TEXAS

Lupe was born the eighth child of migrant farmworkers. She broke down barriers to create a different life for herself and every step of the way made certain others could follow.

She put herself through college and she served as a Captain in the Army National Guard. Later, Lupe worked as a federal law enforcement agent gathering intelligence on drug traffickers, often working undercover.

Lupe busted the good ol' boys club for good when she was elected Sheriff of Dallas County—the first Latina Sheriff in Texas.
