Notes: On April 10, 2017, incumbent Gov. Robert Bentley (R) resigned amid scandal, and the then Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey (R) was sworn in as governor. Gov. Ivey defeated several candidates in the June 10, 2018 primary, garnering 56.1% of the vote while Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox won the Democratic primary with 54.6% of the vote. Ivey declined to debate Maddox. The National Institute on Money in Politics ranked this race as "uncompetitive," showing Ivey raised $6.1 million compared to $2.2 million for Maddox (+). In 2016 Donald Trump garnered 62.08% of the vote, and the last Democratic governor of Alabama was Don Siegelman, elected in 1998.
