Notes: On April 10, 2017, incumbent Gov. Robert Bentley (R) resigned amid scandal (>), and the then Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey (R) was sworn in as governor. Gov. Ivey defeated several candidates in the June 10, 2018 primary, garnering 56.1% of the vote while Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox won the Democratic primary with 54.6% of the vote. Ivey declined to debate Maddox. The National Institute on Money in Politics ranked this race as "uncompetitive," showing Ivey raised $6.1 million compared to $2.2 million for Maddox (>). In 2016 Donald Trump garnered 62.08% of the vote, and the last Democratic governor of Alabama was Don Siegelman, elected in 1998.
