I'm running for governor to do big things — starting with rebuilding our middle class by investing in our schools, creating more affordable housing and repairing our infrastructure. But we're never going to make this state work for us again unless we give voice to the people who are all too often not heard in Sacramento.
That's what my campaign is about — giving voice to everyone. That's what my service as governor will be about — making sure the people are heard in Sacramento and their priorities are addressed.

The powerful have no problem being heard – from elite conferences in places like Davos to the halls of power in Sacramento. To make this state work for everyone – everywhere – we all need an equal voice.
As mayor of the state's largest city, Speaker of the California Assembly – and throughout his career as a union organizer, community activist and president of the Los Angeles chapter of the ACLU – Antonio Villaraigosa has fought for high-wage jobs, quality schools for everyone (not just the lucky and the rich), affordable homes and safe neighborhoods.
He understands there is no such thing as social justice without economic justice. Perhaps because he grew up living paycheck to paycheck, he knows that without equal opportunity for every kid to attend good schools and for every family to afford homes in safe and healthy neighborhoods, we will continue to have income inequality. That's why he wrote the law that brought health care to hundreds of thousands of California children, expanded transportation to create jobs without terrible commutes, wrote what was the nation's toughest assault weapons ban and helped dramatically improve graduation rates in urban schools that others were ready to abandon.
Antonio knows that being truly progressive means our state must make progress for everyone – particularly for the millions of California families doing everything right and still falling behind.
