DEMOCRAT TAMMY DUCKWORTH

A lifetime of overcoming challenges and serving America.

Tammy Duckworth is a two-term member of Congress, a 23-year Veteran of the Army National Guard and former U.S. Assistant Secretary for Veterans Affairs.

When her dad lost his job in his fifties, Tammy's family lost everything-food stamps and the reduced school lunch program kept her and her brother going. But thanks to student loans, Pell Grants and lots of waitressing, Tammy graduated from college and later earned her master's degree and a Ph.D.

In 2004, insurgents shot down the Black Hawk helicopter Tammy was co-piloting in Iraq, costing her both of her legs. After recovering, she served as Illinois Director of Veterans' Affairs.

A new mom, Tammy fights for families and seniors who struggle to make ends meet and for people who just want a fair shot to get ahead.
