Notes: Sen. Chuck Grassley (R), first elected to the Senate in 1980, won a seventh term, handily defeating former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge (D) and several other candidates. In the June 7 Democratic primary Judge topped a field of four candidates (>), garnering 47.6% to defeat state Sen. Robert Hogg (38.9%), former state Sen. Tom Fiegen (6.8%) and former state Rep. Bob Krause (6.6%). The Judge campaign had difficulty gaining traction and brought on a new manager in July. Grassley and Judge debated at Morningside College in Sioux City on Oct. 19 broadcast by KTIV-TV (>) and on WHO Radio. Disagreement between the two campaigns led to cancellation of IPTV's Iowa Press debate. According to the FEC for 2015-16 the Grassley campaign reported disbursements of $11.0 million compared to $2.3 million for the Judge campaign (>).
