WHO IS JOHN CARROLL?

John Carroll came to the territory of Hawai'i in 1949 with a scholarship to play football for the University of Hawai'i under head coach Tommy Kaulukukui. John attended UH Hilo and later graduated from UH Manoa with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While working towards a Master's Degree in Far Eastern studies, John earned his professional teaching certificate and taught at several Island schools.

John went into the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the war. He transferred to the U.S. Air Force after graduating from the University of Hawai'i and went on to flight school where he earned his wings. After jet fighter pilot training, he was a combat­ready fighter pilot, instrument flight examiner, tactical evaluation officer and operational planner for fifteen years. He was instrumental in the planning for Hawai'i's first deployment of fighters by the Hawai'i Air National Guard.

While stationed in San Antonio, Texas, in addition to flying the Delta Dagger, F-102 for the Texas Air National Guard, he also attended St. Mary's University College of Law. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, passed the bar in Hawai'i and was admitted to practice law in 1965. John was certified as a staff Judge Advocate for both the Army and Air National Guard units in the State of Hawai'i. He received an Air Force commendation for authoring Hawai'i's Code of Military Justice.

John also served as a commercial pilot with Hawai'ian Airlines from 1958 to 1989. N He was a member of the pilot's union for over 30 years and was also the founding Chairman and CEO of Hawai'i Aviation Contract Services, a successful pilot placement service for major pacific rim airlines.

John Carroll was elected five times to the Hawai'i State Legislature where it was his honor to serve the people of Hawai'i 4 terms in the House of Representatives and one term as a State Senator.

John owns and manages a small farm/ranch on the Big Island of Hawai'i, in Honoka'a, where he rides horses and works toward viable incentives for the state agricultural industry. John is committed to the future of Hawai'i for his six children, eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

John Carroll has actively practiced law in Hawai'i for more than 50 years.
