TRUE LEADERSHIP.  POWERFUL RESULTS.

JOBS, ECONOMY AND TAXES
Six years ago, Utah found itself in the most severe economic recession since the Great Depression. Friends and family struggled to get by, and unemployment was at eight percent. Six years later, under Governor Herbert's leadership, Utah is the top-performing economy
in America according to just about everybody.

SINCE BEING ELECTED TO STATEWIDE OFFICE, GOVERNOR HERBERT HAS CUT TAXES 34 TIMES. WITH ONE OF THOSE REFORMS RESULTING IN $200 MILLION BEING RETURNED TO UTAH TAXPAYERS.

JOBS
More than 219,000 jobs have been created under Governor Herbert's tenure. The unemployment rate sits at 3.4 percent, among the lowest in America; and for nine of the past 12 months, our state has led the nation in job growth.

According to a US Chamber of Commerce study, Utah is "the bestperforming all-around state. It's quite remarkable, actually."

ECONOMY
Business is booming in Utah. Our economy is the nation's third most diverse. Income inequality is low, and wage growth is up. Tech companies such as Adobe have earned us the nickname "The Silicon Slopes," competing with California's Silicon Valley.

Local businesses are thriving, too, with the US Chamber of Commerce naming Utah the "nation's best state for innovation and entrepreneurship."

TAXES
A key reason for Utah's economic growth is the positive tax policy that Governor Herbert helped create. The tax burden on hard-working Utahns is the lowest it's been in 20 years. Our citizens now enjoy the ninthlowest tax burden in America, and Utah's corporate taxes are the fourth lowest.

With consistent tax policies that keep government out of our wallets:
*    businesses can better plan for longterm growth,
*    new jobs are created, and
*    families keep more of their income to invest and enjoy.

LEADERSHIP
An economic recovery like Utah's doesn't just happen. It takes hardworking and innovative people; and it also takes a leader, such as Governor Herbert, who thoroughly understands government's role in helping to create a thriving economy.

The results speak for themselves. Governor Herbert's policies are proof that our state is doing things right. Because of that, future generations have the ability to find good-paying jobs right here in Utah. That's true leadership, and we all benefit from it.

  • FORBES MAGAZINE NAMED UTAH THE "BEST STATE FOR BUSINESS AND CAREERS."
  • GALLUP NOTED WE'RE "#1 FOR JOB CREATION IN THE NATION."
  • STANDARD AND POORS, MOODY'S AND FITCH ALL GIVE UTAH THE BEST CREDIT RATING IN AMERICA.
  • IT'S NO WONDER THAT THE PEW CENTER NAMED UTAH THE "BEST MANAGED STATE IN AMERICA."

EDUCATION

Education is the most important investment we can make in Utah's future, which is why Governor Herbert's administration has wisely invested more into education funding than at any other time in our state's history.

NO COMMON CORE
Utah is not beholden to Common Core. Governor Herbert worked with Congress to repeal the mandates of No Child Left Behind. The Governor has ensured that Common Core is not pulling Utah's education strings. Just the opposite, in fact.

In Utah, we control our education standards and curriculum, not Washington, DC. Anyone who says differently either doesn't know the truth, or they aren't telling the truth.

STANDARDS AND CURRICULUM
*     The State Board of Education selects education standards. The Governor's Office has no involvement.
*    Curriculum is controlled by local school boards-not the state or federal government.
*    Governor Herbert supports doing away with the federal Office of Education.

Per the governor's request, the attorney general has conducted an independent review of Utah's education system. He found all points above to be accurate and true.

  • $1.8 BILLION OF NEW MONEY HAS BEEN INVESTED INTO THE EDUCATION SYSTEM WITH A FOCUS ON MONEY GOING TO CLASSROOMS AND STUDENTS.
  • WHEN GOVERNOR HERBERT TOOK OFFICE ONE OUT OF EVERY FOUR UTAH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENS DIDN'T GRADUATE (25 PERCENT). TODAY GRADUATION RATES HAVE GROWN NEARLY 10 PERCENT AND ARE NOW AT 84 PERCENT.
  • 3,400 ADDITIONAL UTAH STUDENTS NOW GRADUATE EACH AND EVERY YEAR.

STATE'S RIGHTS

There's a reason that Governor Herbert was chosen by 31 Republican governors as chair of the National Governors Association to lead the change in bringing control back to the states. He's been leading the nation in advocating states' rights for years.

LOCAL CONTROL OF EDUCATION
Governor Herbert played a key role in supporting Congress passing a law to prohibit federally mandated education standards-including Common Core.

SELF DETERMINATION
Governor Herbert worked with our federal delegation to return local control of public lands to our state, including the landmark Utah Recreational Land Exchange Act. This act will give us back 35,000 acres of our land.

Governor Herbert, like most Utahns, believes in being self-reliant. In fact, he believes that self reliance should permeate everything we do in government. It is that leadership that has helped create the nation's strongest economy, Utah's largest investment in education, and America's most forceful voice for states' rights.

Utah has never been stronger than it is today, under the leadership of Governor Gary Herbert.

"ON MY WATCH WE WILL CONTINUE TO EFFECTIVELY FIGHT THE BATTLE WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON EVERY FRONT." -GOVERNOR HERBERT

  • UTAH WAS THE FIRST STATE TO FILE A SUIT AGAINST THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL MANDATES OF OBAMACARE. IN THE END 26 OTHER STATES WOULD JOIN THAT EFFORT.
  • GOVERNOR HERBERT'S ADMINISTRATION HAS FILED MORE THAN 12,000 DIFFERENT LAWSUITS THAT PUSH BACK AGAINST FEDERAL OVERREACH, INCLUDING THOSE THAT FIGHT AGAINST THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT, PROTECT GRAZING RIGHTS, AND STOP THE ILLEGAL CLOSURE OF ROADS AND ATV TRAILS.
  • MANY STATES HAVE TRIED TO PASS LEGISLATION, BUT ONLY ONE GOVERNOR HAS SIGNED A BILL CALLING FOR A TRANSFER OF PUBLIC LANDS: GARY HERBERT.
