MARK BEGICH
TRUE ALASKA

MARK BEGICH, born and raised in Alaska, travels across our state listening to Alaskans – so it's no wonder he fights for us every day.

MARK GETS RESULTS FOR ALASKA

From keeping our F-16's at Eielson and saving thousands of jobs, to fighting the Obama administration to develop our oil and gas resources, Mark Begich never stops promoting Alaska's interests in Washington.

Mark's top priority is growing Alaska's economy by creating good jobs right now for Alaskans and investing in critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airports and harbors to help create jobs and expand our economy.

Mark understands that responsibly developing Alaska's oil and gas, mineral, and fishing resources is the way we create jobs in Alaska. He's using his clout to secure critical federal permits for responsible Arctic and Cook Inlet drilling and opening the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska for development. He fought to expand mining at Red Dog, Kensington and Greens Creek and open new areas in Southeast Alaska.

FIGHTING FOR ALASKA FAMILIES

As a small business owner who helped his mother make ends meet for six kids, Mark knows how hard it can be for Alaska families to get ahead. That's why he has always fought to make sure families have good early education options for their children, expand job training opportunities, and bring down the cost of college. Mark is also fighting to protect Social Security and Medicare for Alaska seniors, as well as expanding support services in rural and urban Alaska communities.

He's fought for new funding to make our communities and families safer. That means more cops on the street and more firefighters in our neighborhoods through extra federal funds.

MARK FORCES WASHINGTON TO LISTEN TO ALASKANS

Washington doesn't get Alaska. Mark fights every day to stand up for Alaska communities and businesses. He and Senator Murkowski teamed up to stop the FDA from approving "Frankenfish," a genetically-modified salmon that could threaten Alaska's seafood industry. When the Obama administration tried to decommission two Coast Guard icebreakers, he stopped them to ensure safe shipping in the Arctic.

He also has strongly fought against attempts by the Obama administration to curtail Alaskans' Second Amendment rights. Mark understands Alaskans value their privacy rights, which is why he opposed the Patriot Act and REAL ID and continues to stand up against attempts by federal law enforcement to spy on citizens without a warrant.

STANDING UP FOR ALASKA'S VETERANS AND MILITARY
FAMILIES IS OF SPECIAL CONCERN TO MARK BEGICH

Mark grew up in East Anchorage surrounded by military families. His father, Nick Begich, was Superintendent of Schools on Fort Richardson. Fighting for veterans and military families is at the core of his work in the Senate. Working with Senator Murkowski and the Alaska Legislature, he stopped the Obama administration from cutting benefits for Alaska Territorial Guard members during his first months in office. He made sure military children under 26 can be on their parents' TRICARE, expanded the GI Bill, and fought against the Obama administration when it wanted to reduce commissary benefits.

With over 70,000 veterans in the state, he secured a seat on the Veterans Affairs committee, where he pushed through a historic agreement to allow rural Alaska veterans to get care in their community instead of flying thousands of miles to Anchorage or Seattle. He pushed the VA to create new partnerships with community clinics and providers so veterans no longer have to wait for care. These changes have brought the wait list down from over 900 to almost zero.
