SOUTH DAKOTA
     Nov. 4, 2014 Governor

Card - 5" x 7".

WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED A LOT
TOGETHER

BALANCED OUR BUDGET WITHOUT RAISING TAXES
As a state, we've balanced our budget every year without using gimmicks or raising taxes as other states have done. We made tough cuts and hard decisions in the face of a significant recession, and today we enjoy budget surpluses. We used a one-time receipt to prepay outstanding bonds, freeing up new funds for schools and other priorities.

CREATED NEW JOBS
I promised I would be South Dakota's #1 salesman. Thanks to our hard work and the state's strong business climate, South Dakota has more jobs than ever before. And the nation is taking notice-in 2013, CNBC named South Dakota "America's Top State for Business."

EXPANDED OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
We are creating new opportunities for our young people, so they can live and work
in South Dakota. We have expanded the Medical School and created incentives to strengthen health care in rural areas. We have invested in new facilities and equipment for cutting-edge programs at the technical institutes. We have frozen tuition at the state universities and promoted university research. And we have expanded dual credit opportunities and invested in career education at our high schools.

REFORMED OUR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
We joined together to pass bipartisan legislation to increase public safety, hold offenders more accountable, and save state dollars. By being "smart on crime," we are using proven methods to fight crime and avoid the need for a new prison.

FOUGHT RECORD FLOODING AND DEVASTATING BLIZZARDS
South Dakotans always join together in times of adversity. In 2011, we stood together to protect river communities from the historic Missouri River floods. Last year, we marshaled state resources to support communities as they confronted a spring ice storm in the east and an autumn blizzard in the west.

I WANT TO KEEP
WORKING FOR YOU

A lot has changed since you elected me Governor. What hasn't changed is my desire to serve the people of South Dakota.

I believe in individual responsibility, hard work and self-reliance. I believe government should be small, acting only where individual citizens cannot.

I believe South Dakota needs to protect and improve our pro-business climate with low taxes and reasonable regulation. I believe we should continue to support our farmers and ranchers, while still growing new sectors of our economy and creating new jobs.

It has been a privilege to serve as your Governor, and I would appreciate your support for a second term. There is so much more that we can do together.

Dennis
