OREGON
     Nov. 4, 2014 Governor

Card, 6" x 11".

When John Kitzhaber entered the governor's office in January 2011, Oregon faced high unemployment, a massive $3.5 billion budget gap, a divided Legislature and an uncertain future.

Today, the picture looks very different. Together, we have:

•  Created over 100,000 jobs and reduced unemployment by helping small businesses grow and expand, while attracting major investments by companies like Nike, Intel, Daimler and more.

•  Restored lost school days and are hiring teachers while demanding accountability for key outcomes like high school graduation rates.

•  Coordinated state healthcare services to reduce waste, cut costs, improve quality and expand preventative care.

•  Made progress on challenging environmental issues, including water use, forest health and creating more sustainable jobs in rural Oregon.

•  Froze tuition at Oregon's community colleges and universities for the first time in 14 years.

In contrast to the political dysfunction of Washington DC, John Kitzhaber did it the Oregon way, working across party lines to get things done for the good of Oregon.

We have made great progress. But there is more to do. With John Kitzhaber as Governor, Oregon will keep moving forward.

FROM THE DESK OF
JOHN KITZHABER, M.D.

Dear Fellow Oregonian:

From my childhood in Eugene, through my years as an emergency room doctor in Roseburg, to serving our state in the legislature and as your governor, Oregon has been my great love. Our stunning natural heritage, our hard working and innovative people and our belief in a better future make this a unique and unmatchable place.

Over our history, we have had something else going for us: a tradition of coming together to tackle tough problems, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Oregonians.

I'm asking for your vote so we can solidify and expand our progress and tackle the great challenges still before us:

•    Rebuilding a strong, secure middle class by helping small businesses grow and by delivering the right kind of jobs — good-paying jobs with benefits.

•    Continuing to invest in and reform our schools to deliver better results for our students and more resources for teachers.

•    Transforming Oregon's economy by growing new and innovative industries like clean energy and clean technology.

We've accomplished big things together. But there is more work to do. I believe we are up to the task. I've been honored by your support, and I would appreciate your vote.

Sincerely,

John Kitzhaber
