FOR MAINE'S GOVERNOR
ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

  • MORE JOBS
Governor Le Page is not a smooth-talking, Washington politician. He's a businessman
and job creator. Under his pro-jobs reforms over 11,000 new private-sector jobs have been created since Governor LePage took office. Maine's unemployment rate is at the lowest level in over five years. Companies like Molnlycke Health Care from Sweden, Eimskip from Iceland, Tempus Jets, Carbonite and Ameridial have moved into Maine. Closed mills are reopened. Business Insider magazine says Maine's economy is "booming." Governor LePage cut red tape, created new business advisors to speed up job creating permits, held summits with small business leaders and cut taxes. Just like our small businesses – Maine is now open for business.

  • HOSPITALS PAID
Governor LePage is committed to fixing Maine's longtime broken budget. He began
with paying a hospital welfare debt left behind by the last Governor. It hurt the economy, hospital workers and our health care system. Governor Le Page paid the debt without raising taxes.

  • WELFARE REFORMED
Having survived homelessness, few people have experienced poverty like Paul Le Page. That's why Paul volunteered for years at Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter and charities for the disabled. As our Governor, Paul is there for the elderly, disabled and families who need some help. For far too long, however, welfare spending and fraud grew unchecked. So Governor Le Page instituted a new five-year cap on what were "temporary" benefits – resulting in nearly a 50% drop in TANF cases. He instituted drug testing for those convicted of drug crimes. He is cracking down on fraud, quadrupling the number of cases referred for prosecution. Our Governor will continue pushing reform to protect taxpayers.

  • TAXES CUT
Washington politicians Barack Obama and Michael Michaud raised taxes. Governor Le Page pushed through the largest tax cut in Maine history. With the liberal policies of Maine's past, the top tax rate supposedly for the "rich" kicked in at less than $20,000 in income for single people and for couples earning less than $40,000. Governor LePage lowered the top rate and cut taxes up and down the income scale, eliminating them for the most vulnerable, lowest income, working people. Governor
LePage is committed to lowering the cost of government.

STOPPING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: We need to protect Maine's women, children and all affected by violence. Governor LePage strengthened penalties for offenders and worked across the aisle with Democrats and judicial leaders to fund programs, reform criminal statutes, toughen bail requirements, and raise awareness.

IMPROVING EDUCATION: While other states cut K-12 education, under Governor LePage K-12 education funding has increased. He provided parents' choices with Charter Schools, took school performance reviews out of the file cabinet so parents can see them, and promoted job training skills so every child can succeed.

RECOGNIZING OUR MILITARY & VETERANS: From laying wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery, hosting dinners with families or traveling our state for events; the Governor and First Lady Ann LePage are there for our heroes. Governor Le Page helped returning military by waiving drivers license fees, provided funding for transportation, promoted Gold Star license plates, and pushed new veterans job initiatives. Recognizing our veterans is a 24/7 commitment.

PROTECTING OUR LIBERTIES AND 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS: Governor Le Page is committed to protecting our Liberty. He has stopped – and will continue to resist – any efforts to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights and liberties.

SAFEGUARDING MAINE'S ENVIRONMENT: State agencies are enforcing the rules. In fact, Governor LePage issued the second largest environmental penalty in Maine's history, placing a nearly one-million-dollar penalty on a major oil company for spill pollution.

FIXING OUR ROADS AND BRIDGES FOR SAFETY: With the Governor's leadership the state added $104 million to improve roads and bridges without borrowing and reduced the average cost per improved mile by 30%. Now with bonding, the Governor is implementing a major $2.2 Billion, 3-year plan for improved transportation.
