Jeff for Jobs

Revitalize Gateway Cities.

Within my first 100 days, I will propose legislation for tax incentives to spur job-creation in dozens of our cities with high unemployment. I will work with mayors and legislators to create"Opportunity Zones" that enable our Gateway Cities to reinvigorate their local economies.

Empower small business.
My administration will cut red tape, unnecessary regulation and fees on small businesses so they can expand and hire people. I will appoint a citizens commission to review the state's regulatory process. Its mission will be to find what oversight is necessary and recommend ways to reduce burdens on companies. Small business is the goose that lays the golden egg – jobs. For the benefit of job-seekers as well
as entrepreneurs, my administration will be committed to strengthening small business.

Reduce energy costs.
As Governor, I'll promote energy projects and policies that will help lower utility costs for consumers and businesses alike. Massachusetts has the 5th highest cost of energy in the US, which is a major obstacle to job creation. For decades I've worked in the field of energy and know there are innovative solutions.

Educate for 21st century jobs.
My administration will support school-based programs that prepare our children to compete and succeed in the changing job market. This means accelerating efforts to strengthen the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) curriculum, and improve and expand skills-based programs, vocational schools and community colleges. And one of our goals will be to make Massachusetts the leader in online learning and the effective use of technology in our classrooms.

Streamline state bureaucracy.

I will be relentless in cutting unnecessary spending so we won't need to raise taxes. Just as other sectors – business, medicine, science – have been innovative, so must we modernize government. Using technology, we will make state government less wasteful and more responsive. We can then afford to invest more in education and transportation, and provide incentives for job-creation.

Jeff's Story

Earlier generations of Jeff's family came to the U.S. from Ireland. They became steel workers, coal miners, police officers – folks who worked hard and sacrificed.

A modest start.
He grew up in a modest home in a blue-collar neighborhood in upstate New York.

"My mom said we were poor. My dad said we were optimally hungry," he jokes. "I certainly didn't feel poor. I was happy, one of four children. We had a room for cooking, a room for playing games, a room for doing homework, and one for cutting hair. We called it our kitchen."

A leader.
Jeff graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Biology, studied molecular genetics, and earned an MBA in Finance. He was a first team All-American lacrosse player and captain of Syracuse's national championship team in 1983.

A proven job creator.
In Boston, Jeff founded Saturn Partners in 1993, financing and growing early-stage companies. These include the popular Boston Duck Tours, Twin Rivers Technologies biodiesel company in Quincy, and e-marketing firm Constant Contact in Waltham. He has specialized in helping build innovative companies in healthcare, education, energy, IT, biotechnology and the environment.

Devoted to his family.
