WORK TOGETHER, STRENGTHEN AMERICA

The Choice for U.S. Senate Is Clear

TIM KAINE
Strengthening Our Economy by Tackling Tomorrow's Challenges

GEORGE ALLEN
Rolling Back Progress by Returning to Yesterday's Ideas
Tim believes that Virginia must prepare today for the challenges of tomorrow. To compete globally, we need a talented and educated workforce that will give workers the training they need for the jobs of the future. That requires investing in the industries of the future, such as clean energy.

Creating New Jobs
One million more people were unemployed the day Allen left the Senate than the day he was sworn in,1 and median incomes were flat.2 In the Senate, Allen voted against raising the minimum wage three times,3 but he voted four times to increase his own pay.4
As Governor, Tim worked across party lines to balance Virginia's budget all four years and cut over $5 billion in spending, including his own pay. As Senator, he will bring both parties together to responsibly reduce our deficit while protecting key priorities like national defense, education and Medicare.

Reducing the Deficit
As Governor, George Allen increased spending by more than 45 percent.5 And as Senator, he turned a record surplus into massive deficits. He voted to add $3 trillion to our national debt,6 while voting against critical funding for students, families, veterans and active-duty military.
Tim will fight to defend women's rights to make their own health and reproductive decisions, and will oppose efforts to weaken or subvert Roe v. Wade. He also strongly supports the Paycheck Fairness Act and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to ensure women receive equal pay for equal work.

Standing with Women
Allen supports the controversial "personhood" legislation, which could criminalize abortions and outlaw some forms of birth control.7 Allen thinks politicians in Washington should make
prívate health care decisions instead of women and their doctors.

Medicare and Social Security are vital programs. Tim will work to strengthen these safety net programs and oppose attempts to privatize them.
Protecting Our Seniors
Allen has praised a budget that will cut Medicare benefits and force seniors to pay up to $6,400 more per year,8 while giving more tax breaks to millionaires. As Senator, he voted to partially privatize Social Security,9 jeopardizing retirements on Wall Street.
