Dear Fellow Ohioan,

This is a different kind of election - a deeply consequential election about what direction our country should go.

For the past several years, the Washington politicians have spent money we don't have and borrowed to cover their mistakes. They have added job-killing burdens to the private sector economy while ignoring the looming crisis in Medicare and Social Security.

As a result, our economic prospects are hurting and our nation faces real problems with precious little time to fix them.

This is not the first time America has faced tough challenges. In fact, our history is defined by overcoming the odds. But today's challenges are different in that they do not stem from an external threat or from events that are outside of our control. The problems today stem from the failure of Washington politicians. They are self-imposed problems, and the current crop of Washington politicians lack the courage to fix them.

These problems range from out-of-control spending, to excessive borrowing, to irresponsible budgeting, to an unprecedented overreach of the federal government into both the private sector economy and the personal lives of Americans.

One choice in this election is to continue down this road of spending too much and borrowing too much, a path that will either lead to bankruptcy or higher taxes. The other choice is to return to the proven free market principles that made our economy the largest in human history.

Washington is broken. We need a new crop of leaders to go in and shake things up. In order to change Washington, we have to change the people we send there, and that's what this election is all about.

Every two years, both Republicans and Democrats peddle so-called "jobs plans" filled with tired old federal legislation that supposedly contain the answer to our economic woes. Both parties have failed, because their "jobs plans" are based on the false notion that politicians create jobs. The only jobs politicians create are government jobs, and we already have enough of those!

Politicians can, however, help or hurt the ability of the private sector to create real jobs. That is what my plan is all about. We will develop many of the ideas in this document in greater detail on our website: jobs.joshmandel.com. But in the meantime, I want to share with you the principles that I believe will unleash the private sector economy for new job growth in Ohio and across America.

My name is Josh Mandel and I'm a two-tour Iraq War and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, former Member of the Ohio House of Representatives, current Ohio Treasurer, and a proud pro-gun candidate for the United States Senate.

As a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment, I must tell you that I am concerned. You see, America is in an economic and Constitutional fight for its life and we must swiftly land a major strike across the bow of the Washington anti-gun lobby before it's too late.

My U.S. Senate opponent, Obama-Democrat Sherrod Brown, simply doesn't share our deep respect for the Second Amendment. In fact, he's consistently rated by the NRA and other respected gun ownership groups as one of the worst lawmakers in Washington.

My friend, I didn't join the Marine Corps, endure boot camp at Parris Island and serve two tours of duty in the sands of Iraq to pick and choose which liberties we will stand up to defend.
