FREEDOM FOR EVERYONE!

I am running to represent you in the United States Senate because:

•  I am saddened at the lives lost and the maiming of young men and women in wars that have dragged on for over a decade. We need to end these wars now and never enter another without a Congressional declaration of war.

•  I am appalled at the way Congress has betrayed the American people by robbing us of our civil liberties through the Patriot Act and other legislation that makes it possible for citizens like you or me to be detained without charges and without judicial review.

•  I am deeply concerned about the threat to our currency posed by the policies of the Federal Reserve Board and the reckless spending of Congress.

•  I am outraged at the bailouts of big banks and big businesses, encouraging and indemnifying irresponsible business practices, at the expense of the other 99% of Americans.

If you share my concerns about peace, civil liberty, fiscal and monetary responsibility, and the enrichment of the top one percent at the expense of the other 99, vote for me, Dean Ahmad, for U.S. Senate.

STOP THE WARS

Osama bin Laden declared war on the United States, openly announcing that
his intention was to bankrupt us by baiting us into wars we could not afford. It is time for the citizens of Maryland to help end Congressional complicity in falling for that strategy. Since the September 11, 2001 attack, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have cost U.S. taxpayers over $1.3 trillion dollars (see costofwar.com). Much worse is the cost in human lives—approximately 4,400 in Iraq and 2,000 in Afganistan, not counting civilians, coalition forces or contrator employees (see globalsecurity.org and antiwar.com). We need American troops to defend our soil, not be engaged in nation-building or tilting at windmills abroad, turning people who have no complaint against us (except our intervention into affairs that are not of our business) into collateral damage. We need our wealth to stay here to build a stronger and more prosperous United States of America and allow others to build their own nations, free from outside interference.

We need to elect Dr. Dean Ahmad to the U.S. Senate for the sake of our brave men and women in uniform.

RESTORE CIVIL LIBERTIES

Benjamin Franklin warned, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Our Congress has betrayed both the liberty and security of the American people by passing one law after another that does just that, from the traitorously named "Patriot Act" to the National Defense Appropriations Act. According to the NDAA, citizens like you or I can be detained without charges and without judicial review.

It is time for the citizens of Maryland to declare our intention to keep the republic the founding fathers bequeathed to us by electing Dr. Dean Ahmad to the U.S. Senate.

RESTORE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are willing to take meaningful action to deal with the ballooning national debt and the continuing budgetary deficit. Their plans to reduce the size of government and cut spending are at best aimed at merely slowing the rate of growth. The Democratic Party wants to raise taxes while increasing spending on entitlements even faster, while the Republican Party wants to cut taxes without cutting spending on warfare and

corporate welfare. Dr. Dean Ahmad will cut real spending by voting against funding for all the wars (including the insane war on drugs), bringing American troops home from around the world (including Korea and Germany), ending welfare to the rich, reforming entitlement programs with means testing and opt-out alternatives, repealing Obamacare (which the Supreme Court has unveiled to be a disguised tax), and initiating action to ultimately reduce the federal government to its limited Constitutional functions, allowing state and local governments, businesses, and civil society to handle those responsibilities that the federal government has usurped from them.

It is time to restore fiscal responsibility and limited government by electing Dr. Dean Ahmad to the U.S. Senate.

END CORPORATE WELFARE

Republicans and Democrats have raided the public till to rescue corporations from the consequences of activities that have ranged from the irresponsible to the criminal. Secure in the knowledge that politicians will bail them out, such "businesses" incur risks that would never be considered by any legitimate business. The excuse that such businesses are "too big to fail" is worse than unacceptable. No more bailouts--any business too big to fail is too big to exist.

Maryland voters, act to stop this outrage. Elect Dr. Dean Ahmad to the U.S. Senate.

Born aboard a U.S. flagged ship in 1948 to Palestinian refugee parents, Dean Ahmad graduated cum laude from Harvard in 1970 and obtained a Ph.D. in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Arizona in 1975. He teaches an introductory course on Islam at the Wesley Theological Seminary and has taught honors courses in "Religion and Progress" and on "Religion, Science, and Freedom" as a senior lecturer at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Dr. Ahmad is a published author and president of the Minaret of Freedom Institute, an Islamic libertarian think-tank. An internationally sought-after speaker on current events, he is well-known for his civic activism as a former President of both the East Bethesda Citizens Association and the Montgomery County Civic Federation.  In 2012, Ahmad was one of a number of local Arab-Americans recognized in an award ceremony by the city of Gaithersburg. Dr. Ahmad lives in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife of 32 years, Frances.
