INDEPENDENT LEADERSHIP
fighting for Massachusetts jobs

Dear Friend,

I didn't have a lot of breaks growing up. I came from a broken home and moved around a lot as a kid. Times were not easy. But I had the love of a mother who struggled to provide for me, and the help of some wonderful mentors who I met along the way.

What I learned is that anything is possible and our lives are not pre-determined by fate. America made it possible for a kid like me to get a fine education, make an honest living, and own a home where I could raise a wonderful family. It doesn't get much better than that.

But that America is slipping away. Massive debt and skyrocketing spending, joblessness, stagnant wages, soaring education costs ... the list goes on. If we don't change course now, we will be the first generation to leave our kids with a weaker, less prosperous, less hopeful nation than the one we inherited. That's wrong.

In 2010, you made it possible for a regular guy like me to become a U.S. Senator. With that high honor, I set out to use what influence I have to ensure that every other kid lives in a country where it doesn't matter where you come from, only where you want to go.

Partisan bickering and political gamesmanship won't help us save that America, and I refuse to participate. I've been an independent voice and I always do what I think is right for Massachusetts and America, regardless of party. We're Americans first.

I haven't been a Senator for long, but my mission hasn't changed and it's why I'm running for a full term. There's much more work to do to and I hope to have your support.

Sincerely,
Scott P. Brown
Scott Brown

"I'm a bridge builder, not a rock thrower. I don't care if you are a Republican or a Democrat. We're Americans first. I'll work with anyone of goodwill to move our country forward, and I'll always put patriotism over partisanship."
AN INDEPENDENT VOICE
In the Senate, Scott Brown has kept his promise to be an independent voice for Massachusetts. He has the most bipartisan record of any member of the Massachusetts congressional delegation and crosses the aisle more than almost any other senator. While remaining true to his core principles of low taxes, less spending and strong national security, Scott has never hesitated to break ranks with his party for the good of the country.

"Brown vowed to stay independent when he got to Washington, D.C., and he has."
(Editorial. "Brown With Envy," Lowell Sun. 7/1/10)

Springfield Republican
"...the Senator is delivering on his promise to be independent."

(Editorial. "Scott Brown's Votes Show Independent Turn," Springfield Republican, 12/28/10)

"Our country is hurting right now. There are millions of Americans out of work, millions more are stuck in part-time jobs when they want full-time work and some have given up looking altogether. Job creation remains job one, and I'll keep working until everyone who needs a job has a job."
FIGHTING FOR JOBS
Scott Brown's top priority is helping people get back to work and getting our economy back on track. To do that, he knows you need to keep taxes low, stop the out of control spending, end frivolous mandates and ensure regulations are simple and fair. Two parts of his Bay State Jobs Agenda recently passed Congress and were signed into law by President Obama-one of the few examples of real bipartisan leadership in a Washington paralyzed by partisan bickering.
Daily News
"This week U.S. Sen. Scott Brown made it clear he's not content to merely talk about job creation. He's proposed legislation that he says 'empowers businesses, reduces regulation and helps companies put people back to work."'
(Editorial, "Senator Toking Steps Toward Job Creation," Newburyport Daily News, 2/3/11)

"Washington has proven time and again to be a terrible steward of taxpayer dollars. Congress needs to break its addiction to spending other people's money. Why would we ever allow them to take even more money from hardworking Americans just so they can turn around and spend that much and more?"
RESTORING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Scott Brown knows that record deficits and debt are shaking our country's economic foundation. If we don't get spending under control soon, America will end up in the same sort of debt crisis that plagues Europe.

Scott supports a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution to force Washington to live within its means. What we should not do, especially while our economy is so fragile, is raise taxes just so politicians can spend more and grow government even larger.
WORCESTER TELEGRAM & GAZETTE
"Scott Brown Has Proved He Means What He Says."
(Bob Nemeth, "Scott Brown and the Polls," 10/9/11)

"Despite all of our challenges, America is still the greatest nation the earth has ever known, and a beacon of light for the rest of the world. But our love of freedom makes us a target for those who hate the idea of liberty, equality and justice. We must keep America strong to defend ourselves and those who share our values."
KEEPING AMERICA STRONG
A 32-year member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, Brown currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. Last summer, he completed his annual training requirements in Afghanistan, where he lived, ate, slept and served with troops throughout the country.

Scott believes in peace through strength and that a strong American military is crucial to safety and security, both at home and around the globe. He has sponsored legislation to combat global terrorism, toughen sanctions on Iran and strip domestic terrorists of their American citizenship.
THE SUN CHRONICLE
"Brown is turning out to be a relatively moderate Republican who is a hawk on national defense and a fiscal conservative. In other words, exactly what he always said he was."
(Editorial, "Give Good Soldier Credit, Attleboro Sun Chronicle, 5/5/11)

"In our military, we see each and every day the best America has to offer. We must keep the promises that have been made to the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect us. It's the least we can do for the heroes and their families who sa rifice so much on our behalf."
HONORING OUR VETERANS
Scott Brown led the charge against the disgraceful situation involving misidentified graves at Arlington National Cemetery, co-sponsoring a bipartisan law to prevent another tragedy like this from happening again. As a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, he has worked on multiple bills to help put returning veterans into good jobs, including the Hire a Hero Act that gives small businesses tax incentives to hire veterans. Scott even brought a congressional committee to Massachusetts to hear directly from our local veterans about challenges they face getting benefits from the VA.

United States Senator Scott Brown
MASSACHUSETTS

Scott Brown came to the United States Senate after one of the greatest political upsets of all time.

Down by 41 points and facing overwhelming odds, Scott Brown rallied to win a special election to the United States Senate in 2010. It had been nearly 40 years since Massachusetts sent a Republican to the Senate. Beating the odds and defying expectations are two things Scott Brown has been doing his whole life.
"Washington has proven time and again to be a terrible steward of taxpayer dollars."
Growing up, Scott Brown knew hunger, poverty, abuse and chaos. But with a push from a tough but caring judge, he turned his life around and became a serious student and an outstanding basketball player. Fresh out of high school he joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard and was a member for thirty two years. Brown graduated Cum Laude from Tufts University with a B.A. in History. He was co-captain of the basketball team and scored almost 1,000 points. Then it was on to Boston College for his law degree.
"Congress needs to break its addiction to spending other people's money."
Scott has worked his way from the bottom up; as assessor of Wrentham, Massachusetts, then Board of Selectmen, three terms in the State House and then service in the State Senate. As a member of the National Guard, Scott Brown served in Kazakhstan, Paraguay and in the summer of 2011, he completed his annual
training requirement in Afghanistan. After 9/11, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in homeland security.

As Senator, Scott has earned a reputation as an independent thinker and voter, willing to reach across the aisle and cross party lines to solve problems and get things done. During all his time in public service, Scott Brown has never voted for a tax increase because he knows that less government spending and fostering a pro-small business economic climate will help small business owners jumpstart our economy.
"Why would we ever allow them to take even more money from hardworking Americans just so they can turn around and spend that much and more."
Senator Scott Brown is leading the charge in the Senate to end the bitter partisanship, gridlock and paralysis that are holding our country back. He brings to his work the commitment, tenacity and stamina you would expect from a long distance runner, swimmer, championship bicyclist, triathlete competitor and lifelong underdog.

Scott Brown's top priority is helping people get back to work and getting our economy back on track. To do that, he is fighting to keep taxes low, stop the out of control spending, end frivolous mandates, and ensure regulations are simple and fair.
