Notes:  Sen. Chuck Schumer (D) defeated political consultant Jay Townsend (R) and two third party candidates to win a third term.

Republicans endorsed former CIA officer and Tea Party activist Gary Berntsen at their state convention on June 2.  However, in the Sept. 14 Republican primary, Townsend defeated Berntsen by 234,440 votes (55.41%) to 188,628 votes (44.59%).

Schumer and Townsend debated at Marist College in Poughkeepsie on Oct. 24.

The race was not competitive financially; according to Open Secrets, the Schumer campaign spent $19.4 million for the cycle, compared to $217,593 for the Townsend campaign (>).
