REPUBLICAN PICK-UP
Notes:
Sen Byron Dorgan (D-NPL) announced on Jan. 5, 2010 that he would not seek a fourth term, making for the open seat race.  Gov. John Hoeven (R) trounced state Sen. Tracy Potter (D-NPL) and Keith Hanson (L) for a Republican pick-up.  Both Hoeven and Potter were unchallenged in the June 8 primaries.  There were two debates: the first, sponsored by the North Dakota Broadcasters Association in Fargo on Sept. 23 and the second sponsored by Prairie Public Television, taped on Oct. 1.  The race was not competitive financially; according to Open Secrets, the Hoeven campaign spent $2.9 million to $28,279 for the Potter campaign (>).
