NOW. MORE THAN EVER.

DANIEL KEN INOUYE is the eldest of tour children born to Hyotaro and Kame lnouye, hard-working and humble parents whom he has always described as his "heroes." He was honored for his heroic service in WWII with the Congressional Medal of Honor, as well as twelve other medals and citations, and has spent his lite supporting our armed forces and veterans who have served our country. In 1949, Dan married Margaret Awamura. Their fifty-seven years of marriage sadly ended when Maggie passed away from cancer. In 2008, he married Irene Hirano, a highly respected Los Angeles community leader, who vigorously supports him in his work in Washington and Hawai'i. In May 2010, Dan celebrated the birth of his first grandchild, Margaret Mary, or "Maggie" for short, born to his son, Kenny, and wife Jessica.

Throughout his more than half-century of public service, Senator lnouye has tirelessly championed the hopes and aspirations of Hawai'i's people. He has improved our economic and educational prospects, strengthened our infrastructure, and protected and restored our natural resources. He has brought billions to Hawai'i to increase access to community healthcare, to support our
small businesses, strengthen our economy in diversified agriculture, technology and science, renewable energy, and large scale federal construction, with parallel educational investments to encourage student achievement in these areas. He has a special place in his heart for the indigenous people of Hawai'i and has supported many programs for the betterment of Native Hawaiians.

Whether on the field of combat or on the floor of the U.S. Senate, Dan lnouye has fought against injustice and to preserve an equality of opportunity for all. Now, more than ever, we need his wisdom, commitment, clout and heart to represent Hawai'i in Washington, D.C.

NOW. MORE THAN EVER.

"There are two basic kinds of issues.

Those that affect our nation's security — not just defense, but also energy, economic and environmental policies. And those social issues that impact everyday families — healthcare, housing, education and jobs.

Whether on a macro or micro level, the decisions we make today which chart our path forward must be sustaining and nurturing of this beautiful place we call home, and of the children who will carry Hawai'i's legacy forward.

This is my unwavering commitment to you."

...the folder held about two dozen 5" x 8" cards including these:

...the backs of the cards detailed Sen. Inouye's work and accomplishments for Hawaiians.
For example:

Kaua'i's largest tech and industrial employer is the Pacific Missile Range Facility. Senator Dan lnouye has helped secure over $1 billion – including $38 million in stimulus funds – to upgrade its equipment and facilities, plus an additional $68.5 million to build an Advance Radar Detection Laboratory, both resulting in more high-paying local jobs.

PMRF also supports Kaua'i's private sector by serving as a magnet for high-tech companies, including those headquartered at the $3.8 million West Kaua'i Technology Center, another federally funded partnership project spearheaded by the Senator. The Center also serves as a technology education and training site for the west side of the Island.

This public-private partnership allows Kaua'i's best and brightest to stay – or return – home to work in their science and engineering fields, supporting their families and contributing to their communities.

The $9.6 million Senator lnouye helped to secure was vital in creating the Community Clinic of Maui's new $11 million home in Wailuku. Since opening, it has expended the island's healthcare services to the poor, homeless and uninsured.

Dan's support of Maui Memorial Hospital's simulation training lab lets healthcare professionals train on computer-programmed, life-like mannequins, ensuring that they are at the top of their game.

And thanks to his seniority in Washington, he was able to help secure funding for federal community health centers in Heno, Moloka'i and Lana'i, with a combined annual budget of $6.5 million. In addition, the Moloka'i Community Health Center received $700,000 to renovate the former Pau Heno lnn, enabling it to consolidate its healthcare services and begin a healthy meal program.

In 2010, Dan lnouye helped secure $1 million for the Kilauea Point Lighthouse restoration, which stands as an icon of the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge. $500,000 was also appropriated for the National Tropical Botanical Garden. These are just the latest in a long list of Garden lsland conservation efforts made possible by the Senator.

He introduced legislation to create the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, which includes the north shore of Kaua'i.

Over $6.5 million in federal funding made possible the land acquisition at Mokolea Point and Crater Hill which make up the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, home to thousands of migratory seabirds such as the Laysan albatross, and migratory shorebirds such as the kolea.

In 1999, $2 million funded the renovation of the Hanalei Bridge at the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. The bridge is the gateway to the Hanalei and Haena areas.

Since 2006, Senator lnouye has worked with the Kaua'i Economic Development Board to create and expand Aloha 'lke – "to love learning" – a program in partnership with the Department of Education.

Aloha 'lke supports all of Kaua'i's public, private and charter schools K-12 by augmenting the school curriculum and funding academic extracurricular activities. Projects include robotics, rocketry, digital media, drama, aquaculture, biofuel cars, Hawaiian culture, wind power, media production, meteorology and journalism.

More than 4,000 Garden Island students hove benefited so far. Fifty community partners hove assisted teachers directly to enrich the learning experiences.

Senator lnouye has helped Aloha 'lke to raise $750,000 in private funds for extracurricular academic projects in Kaua'i schools and secured over $1 million in federal funds.
