"Washington politicians seem more interested in winning the next election than laying the groundwork for the next generation. We need a new approach."

"CHRIS COONS IS THE LEADER DELAWARE NEEDS TO MAKE A REAL DIFFERENCE IN WASHINGTON. HE'S COMMITTED TO WHAT MATTERS —GETTING PEOPLE BACK TO WORK, KEEPING OUR PROMISE TO OUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE AND PUTTING PEOPLE'S NEEDS ABOVE PETTY POLITICS."
–GOVERNOR JACK MARKELL

"CHRIS COONS GIVES POLITICS A GOOD NAME. HE HAS THE HEART OF A SERVANT AND THE WILLINGNESS TO MAKE TOUGH DECISIONS, BUT IN A WAY THAT IS MINDFUL OF THEIR IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF THOSE HE SERVES."
–SENATOR TOM CARPER

As Senator, Chris will bring fresh ideas to Washington, putting Delaware families first.

Chris Coons rejects the politics of "no" that has road-blocked reform and allowed Congress to fail the American people time and again. In Washington, Chris will stand with Delaware to bring change and improve the lives of the middle class, including:

  • Getting tough on Wall Street banks, making them more accountable, and reforming the financial system so we never have a failure like this again.
  • Restoring fiscal accountability by improving transparency so that taxpayers can see exactly how their hard-earned dollars are spent.
  • Encouraging American job growth by giving incentives for companies that create jobs in America, instead of companies that ship jobs overseas.
  • Ensuring our schools provide quality education and giving all Americans the opportunity for higher education.

A record of hard work, real results for Delaware's families.

As County Executive, Chris has successfully guided New Castle County through the deepest economic downturn in generations. He's cut millions in wasteful spending and restored fiscal responsibility to county government, while creating innovative solutions to tackle problem properties and economic redevelopment, removing dangerous parole violators from our neighborhoods, and giving police the tools they needed to reduce crime.

Chris grew up in Hockessin, and now lives in Wilmington with his wife, Annie, and their three children, Michael, Jack and Maggie. A graduate of Amherst College, Yale Law School and Yale Divinity School, he came back home to Delaware so he could raise a family here.

Prior to serving as County Executive, Chris worked as an attorney for Delaware-based W.L. Gore & Associates, one of the 200 largest privately-held companies in the U.S., where he helped the company expand and create hundreds of jobs. He has also worked with several non-profits, including the Council for the Homeless, the education-oriented "I Have a Dream" Foundation, and the Investor Responsibility Research Center.
