ONLY INDEPENDENT LEADERSHIP CAN FIX NEW JERSEY'S PROBLEMS

"If he won, it would change the political landscape of this country. The Republicans and Democrats would have to take notice."
- Joseph Murano, quoted in The Star Ledger

CHRIS DAGGETT
Chris has lived in New Jersey his entire life. He served as Deputy Chief of Staff to the governor and Commissioner of the Department of Environmental Protection under Tom Kean. In 1984, he was appointed Regional Administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency, overseeing New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. He has also been heavily involved in non-profit activities, primarily in the areas of education, open space preservation, land use planning and children's health. Chris is a principal of JM Sorge, Inc. and is involved in brownfields redevelopment work to improve city life and to curb suburban sprawl. A graduate of the University of North Carolina, he also holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Massachusetts. Daggett lives in Basking Ridge with his wife Bea and their two daughters, Alexandra and Justine.

FRANK ESPOSITO
Frank is an American historian, educator and university administrator. He is currently a Distinguished Professor of History and Education at Kean University, where he previously served as the Interim President in the 2001-02 and 2002-03 academic years. He also was Dean of the College of Education, and founding Dean of the Weiss Graduate College. In addition to publishing seven books, Frank was the principal author of New Jersey's Charter School Act of 1995. A graduate of Rowan University, he also holds a PhD in American History from Rutgers University. He lives in Ocean Township in Monmouth County with his wife Sherry and has two children, Robert and Tara.

CURRENT ISSUES

SPENDING/TAXES
Next year, New Jersey will have a 4-10 billion dollar budget gap. Both parties have contributed to this failure. Democrats tax and spend; Republicans borrow and spend.

We only have one option: to cut spending at all levels of government. 80% of state spending is in five areas—aid to municipalities, aid to education, health care for public employees, pension benefits for public employees and Medicaid. Any effort to balance the budget without addressing these five areas will be unsuccessful.

EDUCATION
Daggett's degree and Esposito's career in education make them the best team to address this pressing issue. We must create a system that rewards good teaching by eliminating tenure for new teachers and replacing it with five year,
merit-based renewable contracts. There should also be renewable contracts for administrators. We need to provide more choices to students in failing school districts.

JOB GROWTH
High taxes and a decade-long decline in investment in higher education have caused companies to flee New Jersey. Dramatic cuts to tourism spending have deeply hurt the tourism industry. By reinvesting in both, we will keep our businesses here and create jobs in our struggling economy.

ENVIRONMENT
Daggett's strong background in the environment was affirmed when the Sierra Club endorsed him to be governor. We must promote business growth without reducing our commitment to the environment.

ONLY AN INDEPENDENT GOVERNOR CAN MAKE THE CHANGES NEEDED
TO FIX NEW JERSEY
Our state has had enough of party politics, corruption under the cover of law, and the influence of special interest groups. We must rein in out-of-control spend ing and property taxes. We must reduce New Jersey's budget deficit, debt and fiscal obligations. We must make New Jersey's tax structure more compet itive with other states.

CHRIS DAGGETT IS THE FIRST INDEPENDENT GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE TO:

• Raise enough money to qual ify for public matching funds and to participate in the fall debates w ith the two major party candidates

• Be endorsed by the Sierra Club

• Gain double digits in statewide polling

There is a reason why independent leaders are rising across America. From Minnesota to Maine to New York City, voters have realized that the Republicans and Democrats are more
interested in fighting each other than in solving real problems.

Voters are realizing that real democracy does not have to be a choice between the lesser of two evils.

Join the millions of Americans looking for solutions to problems, not the same old partisan bickering.

WHAT NEW JERSEY IS SAYING ABOUT CHRIS DAGGETT

"Daggett stands to be the most articulate of the three [candidates] as well. Christie piles on the plat itudes like a pie-man piles on the pizza toppings. Corzine tends to get lost in the funhouse of his own thoughts. Daggett speaks in coherent sentences. Not only that, he knows stategovernment. Freed from party ties, the former Republican can address the issues head-on."
- Paul Mulshine, The Star Ledger, Opinion Columnist

"To those who say an independent can't win in this state, I say think again. The club will bring all its resources to bear on this race, and do whatever we can to help Chris Daggett become the next governor of New Jersey."
- Richard Isaac, Political Chair of the Sierra Club

"Chris is mainstream, unencumbered by partisan baggage, and he's running on the issues people care about, issues that frustrate people because they are convinced that no one is either listening or interested."
- Carl Golden, NJ.com Columnist

"Chris Daggett is an exceptionally qualified candidate.... If he were governor of New Jersey, we would be well off."
- Former Governor Brendan Byrne
