THE DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS ARE BOTH RULING-CLASS PARTIES
THEY HAVE TWO PARTIES ... THE AMERICAN WORKING CLASS HAS NONE
The working class makes up the vast majority of the US population. The economy only functions thanks to the work we do every day. Yet the entire political system is in the hands of Wall Street, bankers, and Fortune 500 CEO s. The American capitalist class pulls ali the strings in Washington. The richest 10% own more than 85% of ali the individually held stocks and mutual funds. It's their Congress, their courts, their electoral system, their media, and their parties. They set the rules, and call it "democracy." But more than ever, millions can see through this lie.
LIFE IS GETTING WORSE FOR THE WORKING CLASS
For several generations, the standard of living of US workers has fallen by nearly every measure. Real wages have stagnated since the 1970s. No matter which party is in power, the bosses squeeze more profits out of our labor.
WHAT IS THE CLASS WAR?
In the richest country on earth, four out of five US workers live paycheck to paycheck.
But it's not only a question of wages and the rising cost of living. It' s every aspect of life under capitalism: housing, healthcare, student debt, not to mention global issues like the climate and endless wars. Life is getting harder by every measure.
. . . But not everyone has been feeling the pain. Over the past decade, the richest 1% has captured 54% of new global wealth, and now possess a record $44 trillion. CEOs now make 296 times what a typical worker earns. The ultimate source of "their" wealth is the labor of the working class—the people who create ali the new value in the economy.
This class divide—between those who work for a living, and the huge banks and corporations who profit from extracting surplus value from our labor—is the fundamental conflict in our society. It's the struggle over higher profits for big business, or higher wages for the working class. A better life for the vast majority, or bigger bank accounts for corporate shareholders. Healthcare and education for all, or billions of dollars spent on endless wars abroad.
That is the meaning of the class war. It happens every day, in every industry and every workplace. Most of the time, it takes place quietly, without being noticed. A working-class family loses an income, a house is foreclosed on, a medical bill leads to a bankruptcy. The capitalists want us to view these issues as individual problems resulting from "poor personal choices." But eventually, a point is reached when we realize millions of us are in the same boat. We become class conscious.
WORKERS NEED OUR OWN PARTY!
It's time we realized that the Democrats and Republicans will never help us.
The only force capable of really solving our problems is the conscious, organized,
and mobilized working class. Our class has the power to bring capitalism to a halt and reorganize society in the interests of the majority. Society has enough wealth and technology to give everyone quality jobs, housing, healthcare, free time, and more, if we break with the profit-driven capitalist system.
But to do this, we need to build our own party, fighting for our own program, and our own interests, free from the influence of the capitalists.
There is a name for a class-independent party of this kind, prepared to fight for the working class and to go beyond the artificial limits of capitalism: it's called a genuine communist party.
The building of such a party for the working class—in the US and around the world—is the burning question. Not in the remote future, but now. We are determined to carry out this historic task. But in order to achieve it, we need you.
