2024 Presidential Primary Candidates

Even in the latter part of 2023 conventional wisdom projected a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald J. Trump in November, but there were alternative candidates running.  On the Democratic side, President Biden drew only several longshot challengers, but faced questions about his age.  On the Republican side, former President Trump resoundingly cleared a field of challengers, but faced multiple indictments.  The Republican National Convention is scheduled for July 15-18, 2024 and the Democratic National Convention a month later from Aug. 19-22.  Notable independent candidates are attorney and environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and professor and progressive activist Cornel West.  Thus far, largely unknown candidates are competing for third party nominations.  All told, several hundred candidates filed with the FEC to run for president, most of whom were candidates-in-name-only, having raised no money and done no campaigning.
