FIGHTING FOR THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY

Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda demonize, attack, and endanger LGBTQ+ individuals and families

Vice President Harris and Governor Walz believe that everyone should have the freedom to love who they love—openly, with pride, and without fear. Throughout their careers, they have been leaders in the fight to treat everyone with equality, respect, and dignity.

From the beginning of her career, Vice President Harris has fought to protect the freedom of LGBTQ+ americans to love who they love and be who they are, openly and with pride.

Fighting hate crimes. As San Francisco's District Attorney, Vice President Harris established one of the first Hate Crimes Units in the country, prosecuting hate crimes committed against LBGTQ+ teens in schools, and led the fight to end the so-called "gay and transgender panic defense;' which California outlawed in 2014.

Charging forward for marriage equality.
As San Francisco's District Attorney, Vice President Harris performed sorne of the country's first same-sex marriages, defying state and federal regulations at a time when marriage equality was still banned in almost every state. As California's Attorney General, she refused to defend the infamous Proposition 8, the statewide ballot measure that banned same-sex marriages.

Leading the most pro-equality administration in history. Vice President Harris worked shoulder-to-shoulder with President Biden to deliver historie progress for the LGBTQ+ community, including the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act to protect recognition of same-sex and interracial marriages in all 50 states.

Standing up for LGBTQ+ rights around the world. Vice President Harris advocates for LGBTQ+ rights with global leaders in her diplomatic engagements.

Governor Walz is a career-long champion for LGBTQ+ Americans.

As a teacher in 1999, Walz sponsored his school's first Gay-Straight Alliance student group

While serving in Congress, he co-sponsored legislation to repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act, voted to repeal the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law, and voted for the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

As Governor, Tim Walz signed pro-equality legislation to ban the dangerous practice of "conversion therapy," the so-called "gay and trans panic defense," and book bans.

Trump endangered LGBTQ+ Americans' freedom to live without fear, discrimination, and injustice.

Trump gutted Obama-Biden anti-discrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.
And his Project 2025 agenda seeks to roll back LGBTQ+ protections even further, allowing discrimination in employment, housing, and healthcare to go unchecked, and even criminalizing the discussion of transgender people in schools.

Trump banned transgender soldiers from serving,
overruling the recommendations of military leaders and public health professionals. His Project 2025 agenda would reinstate this ban.

Trump appointed judges who ruled against LGBTQ+ policies,
sided with businesses that discriminate against LGBTQ+ customers, and allowed his transgender military ban to go into effect.

Vice President Harris has won significant victories for LGBTQ+ communities.

Vice President Harris and President Biden strengthened the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to ensure LGBTQ+ communities can access the health care they need, cutting the uninsured rate in the LGBTQ+ community by half. They strengthened protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in healthcare and health insurance; increased enrollment in the ACA for LGBTQ+ Americans by increasing community outreach and lowering premiums by $800 per year; and expanded access to fertility care for service members, veterans, and federal employees.

Vice President Harris worked alongside President Biden to reverse discriminatory practices against LGBTQ+ individuals and families, including reversing Trump's un-American ban on transgender military service and dismantling the antiquated and discriminatory policy preventing gay men from donating blood. They also took historie executive actions to strengthen civil rights protections for the LGBTQ+ community in housing, employment, education, and more.

Vice President Harris and President Biden have expanded mental health services for LGBTQ+ youth—who are disproportionately likely to have considered suicide in the past year. They are makng the largest investment in student mental health in history, hiring thousands of mental health professionals in schools across the country, launching the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, and investing in mental health services specifically geared toward LGBTQ+ youth.

Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will continue to fight for LGBTQ+ individuals and families.

Vice President Harris and Governor Walz are committed to expanding civil rights protections and passing the Equality Act. The Harris-Walz Administration will work diligently to pass the Equality Act, enshrining into law robust antidiscrimination protections in public accommodations, housing, education, credit, employment, and more.

Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will fight for reproductive freedom—restoring the protections of Roe v. Wade and ensuring every American has access to the reproductive health care they need, including fertility care.

Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will continue to fight attacks on the freedom to teach and learn, opposing book bans that censor content about the LGBTQ+ community.

Trump and his Project 2025 agenda will go even further to take away protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.

Trump vows to "terminate" the Affordable Care Act and his Project 2025 agenda will increase costs and rip away protections from LGBTQ+ Americans. The ACA ensures LGBTQ+ people nationwide can access health care free from discrimination, bans insurance companies from denying care or charging more for people with pre-existing conditions, and requires insurance companies to cover HIV prevention medication like PrEP. Without insurance coverage, this medication can cost as much as $6,000 for a 90-day supply.

Trump's Project 2025 agenda promotes discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in every arena
-–permitting religious employees to refuse to work with LGBTQ+ colleagues and to refuse to serve LGBTQ+ customers, withdrawing financia! support for medically necessary health care, gutting HIV/AIDS programs, public health research, health benefits for service members and their families, and more.

Trump's Project 2025 agenda would make it harder for LGBTQ+ people to adopt children and create families by allowing federally-funded adoption and foster care providers to refuse to work with same-sex couples or LGBTQ+ people.

Trump's Project 2025 agenda restares his discriminatory ban on transgender people serving in the military, adopts what amounts to a federal "Don't Say Trans" policy, and threatens to jail teachers and school librarians who allow students access to books, movies, and other materials on transgender people.

Trump vows to immediately reverse protections for LGBTQ+ students. On "day one" of his presidency, Trump promises to repeal the Biden-Harris Administration's protections that cover discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
