Kamala Harris Media Tour — Week of October 7, 2024
(revised Oct. 11, 2024)
The week of October 7 Vice President Kamala
Harris made a series of high profile media
appearances which showed more of her personal
side. On Oct. 6 she did an interview on
influencer Alex Cooper's "Call Her Daddy"
podcast ("the most-listened to podcast by
women"). On Oct. 7 she appeared on CBS
News' "60 Minutes." On Oct. 8 she made
appearances on ABC News' "The View,"
SiriusXM's "Howard Stern Show," and CBS's "The
Late Show with Stephen Colbert." On Oct. 10 the media
tour continued with a Univision Noticias town
hall with undecided Latino voters.
The different venues offered opportunities for some lighter moments as well as more serious discussion. Viewers learned about Harris' musical preferences and that she is a fan of F1 racing. On "The View" Harris wrote excuse notes for two kids in the audience who were playing hooky and on the "Late Show" she had a sip of beer with Colbert. More seriously, on "The View" Harris announced a plan to expand Medicare to include at-home care for seniors. Viewers watching the Univision town hall saw all too rare instances of Harris engaging in unscripted exchanges with ordinary citizens.
A Harris for President fundraising email summed up, "Through each of these conversations, we are connecting with voters who have not made up their mind about how to cast their ballots in 25 short days." However, the pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. had a different take, saying the media blitz showed, "She’s not a serious person, she’s a failed candidate and we hope she does many more interviews to continue to prove our point." Much of what voters have seen thus far of Harris has been carefully scripted (convention speech) or well-rehearsed (debate); this week of appearances gives undecided voters more information upon which to make their voting decisions.
