ed. 08/02/24 updated 08/12/24 - Vice President Harris has enjoyed a two-week honeymoon period, buoyed by energized Democrats, fundraising success, and favorable coverage.
The Democratic activity since July 21 has to an extent overshadowed the Republican message, and Trump and Republicans are having to adapt to the changed circumstances.  The GOP has plenty of material with which to attack Harris over the next 95 days, but that is just one part of the puzzle.  Can Harris and her campaign and allies respond effectively to the attacks?  And, more broadly, which campaign's mix of positive and negative messages will resonate with voters.  Political fortunes can turn quickly.  Recall that in coming off the Democratic Convention in July 1988, Gov. Michael Dukakis led by 17 percentage points, only to lose handily to Vice President Bush in the general election.  Experienced commentators point out that the electorate is very different, and much more polarized now than it was then (1, 2), but this is expected to be a close election.

FLIP-FLOPPING KAMALA HARRIS

Kamala's handlers are frantically attempting to walk back her years of deranged, far-left positions.

Of course, Kamala doesn't have the courage to do it herself. In the 12 days since she forced Biden off the ballot, she has yet to do an interview or press conference where she can be pressed on her humiliating flip-flops.

It's a classic bait-and-switch — but Kamala's years of support for the farthest-left policies can't be masked when she's on the record repeatedly defending them:

CLAIM: Kamala "would not ban fracking."

  • "There is no question I am in favor of banning fracking." (Link)

  • "I am committed to ... finally putting an end to fracking once and for all." (Link)

CLAIM: Kamala "no longer supports a single-payer health care system."

  • "Let's eliminate all [private health insurance]. Let's move on!" (Link)

  • "I've always supported" a socialist takeover of health care. (Link)

  • "I am proud to co-sponsor" government takeover of health care. (Link)

  • "As we talk about moving toward a single-payer system, I think that there is certainly momentum." (Link)

CLAIM: Kamala "is fighting to fix our broken immigration system."

  • "An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal." (Link)

  • "I support our sanctuary [city] law." (Link)

  • "We need to probably even think about starting [ICE] from scratch." (Link)

  • Illegal immigration "is not an emergency." (Link)

CLAIM: Kamala won't defund the police.

  • "I applaud" defunding the police. (Link)

  • "We need to reimagine" our police departments. (Link)

  • "What we will do is reimagine public safety." (Link)

CLAIM: Kamala "no longer supports" the Green New Deal.

  • "I am committed to passing a Green New Deal." (Link)

  • "I support it ... we're gonna have to figure out a way to get there." (Link)

  • "I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal." (Link)

CLAIM: Kamala doesn't support mandatory gun confiscation.

  • Mandatory gun confiscation is "a great idea ... I'm gonna take executive action." (Link)

  • "A buyback program is a good idea." (Link)

  • "I support a mandatory [gun] buyback program." (Link)

CLAIM: Kamala won't pack the Supreme Court with far-left activist judges.

  • "I'm open to this conversation about ... increasing the number of people on the U.S. Supreme Court." (Link)

  • "Everything is on the table." (Link)

  • "I am open to that discussion" of packing the Court. (Link)

Kamala is the ultimate political chameleon, assuming whichever position she thinks will gain her favorability with voters. It's the most shameless form of insincerity — camouflaging her true self in a bid to fool voters into believing she's anything but a weak, failed, dangerously liberal politician.

Fortunately, Americans are smart — and they know a fraud when they see it.

Harris for President

9 Days Since Trump’s Last Swing State Event

August Recess for Donald Trump

Over at the Harris-Walz campaign we are joyous, raucous, and fired up—and on the road. From Philly, to Detroit, to Eau Claire, to Phoenix, to Vegas, we are out there meeting voters.

Our opponent: Less than three months from Election Day and Donald Trump is rage posting nonsense and not campaigning. That’s the vision he wants to send to the American people of a kind of president he will be: unstable, unfit, and quite angry.

It’s been 9 days since Donald Trump held a swing state event:

(this is nothing to say of him blowing it according to Republicans at NABJ and attacking the popular Republican governor of swing state Georgia)
His campaign is in free fall. His aides are worried about his “disorienting” behavior and the fact Trump “is struggling to get past his anger.” (Have they met Donald Trump?)

He is attacking his donors and throwing JD Vance under the bus (Well, we watched the Sunday shows and the cringe this week too)

His running mate’s newest critique is that he isn’t weird, then is super weird about people loving their spouses? (HE IS NOT MAD!)

He’s very mad about crowd sizes, claiming it’s all fake and AI generated (. Maybe if he campaigned he’d get crowds too?)

He’s very supportive of Project 2025 (Don’t say we told you so)

He’s announced he will ban abortion medication used to treat miscarriages (Again, told you so)

He held a public meltdown where he struggled to hear and couldn’t tell the truth from reality (Good job, we guess?)

He threatened to sue the New York Times after he confused two different black men as the same person in an absurd lie about an almost helicopter crash (Alrighty)

He’s up late truth-socialing (Grrrrrrrr that’ll reach swing voters)

He was called out by Celine Dion after he used her music (Sinking ship song is applicable though)

He finally agreed to debate, see you September 10 (If he shows)

He’s speaking to Elon tonight (go for it)

Harris-Walz 2024 Spokesperson James Singer released the following statement:

“Donald Trump is self-obsessed, lashing out, proving exactly what this campaign has said all along: he’s running only for himself and couldn’t care less about making peoples’ lives better. He isn’t actually campaigning, his public appearances are disasters, and his Project 2025 agenda is dragging him down as much as it would drag America backward. He doesn’t seem well.

“Vice President Harris is the only candidate out on the campaign trail in swing states fighting to win this election. Ok by us!

“Voters are responding to the contrast they are seeing: Donald Trump's message to Americans is to fear one another, spread chaos, and divide us. Americans rejected that in 2020 and they are rejecting it now. Vice President Harris and Governor Walz believe in love of country, joy in shared values, and optimism in the fight for our shared future.”
