Democratic National Convention Eclipses MAGA Convention Viewership Across Broadcast, Streaming, and Online Platforms

Democrats’ positive vision generates more than 108 million combined views on broadcast and streaming, more than 350 million views on social media

The 2024 Democratic National Convention pulled in a massive TV and online audience across all four days of programming as Democrats brought the story of the Harris-Walz ticket out to the American people. The fourth and final night of the convention featured Vice President Kamala Harris, who told her own story from the stage of the United Center and laid out her vision for a New Way Forward.

“While Donald Trump obsesses over his (low) primetime ratings, Democrats built a convention that prioritized reaching people where they are. For the first time in history, we used vertical streaming, digital clippings, and content creators to share our story and expand our reach to households across the country,” said Matt Hill, Democratic National Convention Senior Communications Director. “This week, tens of millions of American voters heard the story of how the Harris-Walz ticket is fighting for their families, freedoms, and future — eclipsing the audience that tuned into the RNC to hear the story of Trump’s extreme and unpopular Project 2025 agenda that would take the country backwards.”

Broadcast:
  • On TV, the final night of the DNC pulled in an estimated 26.2 million viewers across 15 networks.
    • The DNC outrated the RNC on all four nights with a total estimate of 87.2 million viewers over the course of the week.
Streaming:
  • Across DNC/Harris-Walz online platforms, the Democratic National Convention racked up 21.3 million views over the course of four days.
Digital Content:
  • The convention garnered 350 million views – and counting – on partner-created content across the four days of convention.
    • The 2024 Democratic National Convention credentialed over 200 content creators to cover the convention in person and hundreds of others to cover remotely, reaching a combined following count of 500 million.
  • More than 400 users used a microsite, including 206 creators and 64 main stage speakers, to download and use DNC content on their own platforms.
    • Throughout the week, creators used more than 3,000 pieces of content, the most downloads and shares compared to any other group.
Democrats are reaching new audiences and taking the message of the Harris-Walz ticket to the American people, everywhere they get their information. As part of our work to expand our reach to voters across the country, the Democratic National Convention offered Americans more ways to watch and engage than ever before, streaming on over a dozen platforms. For the first time in convention history, the convention also hosted vertical streams across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, in addition to the convention being streamed online on a variety of platforms including Amazon Prime Video, TV device apps such as Apple TV and Roku TV, and traditional television broadcasts.
